Oh my! The camera found an African-American! NPR had this nugget today on diversity and the RNC v DNC delegates:

RNC Demographics, of 2,380
Black Delegates: 1.5% (36 people)
Hispanic Delegates: 5%
Male Delegates: 68%
Female Delegates: 32%

By the way, in 2004 the RNC had 4% black delegates. What happened there, guys?

DNC Demographics, of the 4,400 delegates:
Minority delegates: 44%
Black delegates: 24%
Hispanic delegates: 12%
*Women slightly outnumber men for first time in convention history

This "stand up and fight" bit is making me giggle.

Anyone else watching tonight, now that it's over? The Code Pink protester? The empty promises with absolutely no details about anything he'll do? The messed up screen? What did ya think?

I was told that all those USA chants were because they were instructed to chant it - loudly - when a protester would start yelling.

Sure did hear a lot of USA tonight.

I was only able to watch it for about 10 minutes, because despite my best efforts I couldn't stand the sight of him embarrassing himself. It was all so boring and quiet and blahhhhhhhh.

ps: I heart Heart. Trevor and I always debate '70s Heart v. '80s Heart. Can you guess who's on which side?

I'm sorry...you guys debate WHAT?!

I swear to God as the truth, in all the millions of discussions/debates/arguments over music, I have been in/heard, I've never heard this one.

I'm not coming to the wedding now. No way. I'm too staggered to recover in time...

Is there an 80s Heart?

ha ha ha... Based on my point of view on this one, I'd agree there's simply no debate, either.

Thank you, Majorie!

Oops, did I just give my position away?

I had this lengthy, annotated diatribe all written out, complete with facts about chart positions and band name irony and inventing the key change, but I think the best argument for 80's Heart is simply to say that whatever Nancy Wilson was channeling during that decade was good enough to coax a marriage proposal out of Cameron Crowe, so it's good enough for me...

I'm guessing most Stateside folks have already seen this, but Stewart killed me with this Palin bit:

(apologies for the non-Heart related post)

Loved that, Saleem - it's weird, for some reason I never watch The Daily Show, and clips like this make me wonder why.

I giggle at your giggling about McCain's "stand up and fight" mantra.

What makes me giggle even more is picturing this same statement made at the Democratic Convention, but it would sound like this:

"Stand up as you are able and fight!"

'Cause, umm... what if you can't stand???

Love your stats, Mags. Itching to make them into pie charts...

Maybe after the 15th!!!
