Gravatar Call me selfish, but if my wife ever hawked her wedding ring, her bitch ass would be out on the street faster than my Sunday Night Dates!
It's supposed to be symbolic of your love and devotion, isn't it?

Gravatar I actually think bravo to her for just admitting that she has a dream all of her own. You know that the hubby/kids thing just doesn't cut it for many people and probably she does show her kid enough love. Okay, I'm babbling, but if my mum or dad won the Nobel Peace Prize and said it was the highlight of his/her life, I wouldn't feel slighted.

Gravatar i don't know, i think there is a difference between highlight of life and best thing that ever happened to you. and i agree, wedding and kids isn't for everyone, but once you've done the kid thing you have a responsiblity to them. they didn't choose to be born, you chose to have them. also, i sort of think the nobel peace prize is a bit different than say, getting through the first audition at american idol... (i know you were just making a point, but you know...)

Gravatar Yeah, I was doing the same thing last night and happened to see the same section. And my exact thoughts were: "I admire her drive in wanting to get to the auditions, and totally understand her being excited about passing the first tryout, but seriously? It's American Idol. That's the greatest moment of your life? Boy, what a crappy life you've led so far."

Gravatar My theory is .. "90% of the time people haven't a clue why they are saying the things they are saying .. and with a camera in their face .. the remain 10% also give in."

Mainja I believe you are ascribing a profound sense of understanding to that lil kid .. I feel .. she'd gone .. "Yeah!Mommy is on TV" .. the husband .. come on! I'd have to agree with Dickeybird.
Did she really need to hawk that wedding ring? Maybe she did that coz she felt it would make a great story ..

This was my first episode of American Idol ever. I am left with mixed feelings about the show ...

Gravatar yeah, my thing wasn't about the little kid now, it was about the little kid when they watch the show when they're 10 or 12.

but i do take your point.

i guess i should say that it's how i would have felt if i were the kid, i of course can't speak for the child herself...

Gravatar Depending on her history, maybe getting to American Idol and making it to Hollywood WILL be the highlight of her life. That doesn't give her a sad life. But she shouldn't have said that stuff in front of her kids. Also because she would get more votes by sticking up for her kid ;)

Gravatar maybe it is the greatest moment of her life. maybe husband and kids weren't on her wish list, maybe they just happened and she didn't know there was a choice about that. in which case, they might already know that they aren't the greatest things that ever happened to her.

but i also agree with Sanketh - most of the time, people have no idea what they're saying, especially when there's a camera in their face.
