I'd be glad to share a story if I had one. Saw a therapist once, did wonders for me (believe it or not, i was weirder). Never needed meds.
But they can be a definate asset to your wellbeing. Certainly not a sign of weakness.

the longer the better as long as it helps you to write about it, as far as i'm concerned. for me, i think writing about this stuff is better medicine than anything the doctor could prescribe.

i just remembered something last night while lying in bed that i thought might be intresting given this discussion. (she says, hoping for a discussion...)
i remember after my first breakdown, after i'd been on meds for a bit, i was on the phone with a friend and he said to me "it's nice to have you back" just kind of out of the blue.
i asked him what he meant and he said that for the last long while i wasn't myself and that i was myself again.
it was an eye opening moment for me because he and i never really talked about depression, and he'd never said anything about it before, and i was convinced that i was hiding it oh so well. i really wasn't.
so, for me the meds brought me back, back to a place where i could do the other work on myself.

It's not that I'm not willing to discuss this, but it's a very difficult issue to sum up in postings. I have seen meds work wonders with people, especially coupled with therapy, but they are definitely overprescribed, most people don't take them correctly (ie. continuing to heavily drink and use drugs), and have very powerful side effects. Personally I don't think I will ever choose to go back on them.

Note: My own decision to not go on meds in no way implies that they don't work for many people. It's just that in my case cognitive therapy techniques and (yes it's true) dosing of B vitamins have the same effect.
