I'll say it again - we're a sad excuse for a supposedly highly evolved species. We take our planet and all it has to offer for granted, and when the earth tries to tell us something needs fixing, all we do is buy Hummers and yammer on about our god-given right to indulge in behaviour that will eventually kill us and the planet we live on.
I think the deep lake cooling is a wonderful idea. Due to the thingie where the water reverses midwinter, they can use it to modify the temperature all year round as the warm water goes to the lake bottom. I used to know what that thing was called but my brain is fried right now. They should do that here in Owen Sound as the Sound is VERY deep and from my summer camping experiences, I can attest to it being FREAKING COLD even in July-August.
I'd love to be an activist but even when I try to do little things, I realize how much excess I do make. I think I'll be slow at getting there but I try one little thing at a time to be more conscious of my actions.
stephen, see, the thing is, that's where i am too. i guess what i'm saying though is that i'm not so nieve to expect that we can have sustainablity without compromise.
