It got me thinking too. Most, maybe all, of the blogs I've commented on today have been about myself. Hey, I’m doing it again now! But, as you say, it was mainly through wanting to reciprocate. And isn’t it nice to know that you made some stranger think?

It’s weird because normally, at work especially, I don’t think I talk about myself that much.

To me (aaaaaaaaah!!!! Already it's about me! lol) if you comment on a post, it means the post got you thinking. And sharing your story? Well... isn't that what people do in a real life conversation? It's like saying "I identify with what you wrote there and here's what I've experienced if you want to know".
I mean, don't post a comment that has absolutely nothing to do with the post, sure. Someone writes about their dog dying and you comment "OMG I got my hair cut today and I LOOK FABULOUS!"-- that might be a bit self-centred. But to commisserate by sharing a story of your own on the same subject? Ain't nothin wrong with that.

I sometimes comment about myself if it relates to the post somehow, like a personal experience that was simillar. I don't think there's anything bad about that and I like when people do that on my blog. It's all about sharing!

Agree with your post and all the comments - I think Louise is dead on the money. I also went and read the comment and post that inspired your post, and I don't get why Le Serpent chose to get all snitty at that point.
