I saw this last week and thought it was amazing-- I think every girl in the world (and a few guys, too) should see it. Mind if I "steal" it to put it up on my blog?

That is a great video, but I find it odd for Dove to have created it - there's no way that the Dove models on all the subway posters weren't airbrushed. None of them had cellulite.

Snooze: They actually do have a series where no one is airbrushed, and the models don't look "perfect". I hate to say it, but I've never been that impressed with the ads. I really enjoy looking at the genetic freaks of nature.
In any case, I suppose this is why I don't usually like the Real Beauty ad campaigns, but I have to say, that one's pretty good.

Turns out I'm obsessed by this transformation. Some of these image manipulations are mindlessly simple, and sort of boring for that reason, but others are more subtle changes, that have an equally profound effect on our perception of beauty, but are also an indication of the whims of fashion. Take for instance, the touch up at end of the commercial that removes some of the shadow created by her checkbones. This was one of the changes I thought did the most to "beautify" this woman, but is also clearly an aesthetic choice of the moment. In the 80's fashion was all about blush that emphasized check bones in dramatic ways - the tastes of 2006 aren't so interested in that any more.

Snooze: Oh wait, you're actually talking about the Real Beauty campaign, you're just saying you don't think those models have gone untouched. You're probably right. Now to stop leaving messages...
