It is SO HARD, as an adult, to not feel like you're "making excuses" when you are going through something like this. I once told a former administrator about my A.D.D., just as a 'preventative measure' or whatever, only to have her say something along the lines of "Well you're an adult, you'd think you'd have done something about that by now".
Anyway. I hope that everything works out really well for you.

Ya gotta count the successes. Not crying until after you left the director's office is a success.
I know I'm probably sounding boring going on in a Pollyanna way about reminding yourself of your strengths but ... I'm going to keep on doing it.
You are not defined by whether or not you're a good policy analyst. If someone asks me to tell them about my daughter the first words out of my mouth are 'she's wonderful' NOT 'she's a policy analyst.

I'm sorry to hear about pain your having at work, and about feeling down due to things you can't control.
Your talking about it, and searching for resources to overcome what may hold you back. That is such a strong and productive thing in itself!
I love your writing, and even with this angst - I do predict a happy new year ahead! Don't settle for less!
