Who's last name will the baby have? It's always easier when you know how the whole name will sound.

John's, which is Bourke.
(pronounced like Burke, not like Rourke with a 'b')
Legally he'll have both our names, but I'm not a huge fan of the hyphenated name thing because you end up with a situation where people with hyphenated names get together and their kid ends up with 4 last names.
So, although legally he'll likely be Mooney-Bourke (it just flows better than Bourke-Mooney), he'll really only ever be called Bourke I think.

Right, so for me first names with the K sound don't flow too well which happens if names are shortened. While Jacob Bourke sounds OK, Jake Bourke doesn't to me. Same with Max Bourke. And I can't say that I'm keen on Sebastian but I'll get used to whatever comes so long as it's not Herbert.

what do you suppose it is about mum's that makes them not get the "no commentary please" message? ;)

Mums are exempt from those messages. You'll find out soon enough!!!! And then you will play that card all the time :-)

PS Besides, your mum had such valid points that they were worth sharing. I'm off to click now.
