Gravatar In 1980, a very politically savvy friend, who was very active in Democratic party politics, called me to say she was planning on voting for Ronald Reagan in the primary, since she lived in a crossover state and Carter was already clearly going to be renominated. I asked if she had gone crazy. She replied, "Of course not. Reagan is so extreme with such an ultra-conservative platform that it will unite the Democrats, and secure the moderates and centrists. I'm voting for Reagan because he's the easiest to beat."

I know that you right-wing extremists are thinking that you can use the same old tired game plan "Call (fill in the blank for any Democrat) a 'LIBERAL' over and over again and we win!" But it might not work for you this time.

There are, undoubtedly, some people who get hysterical when they hear the word "liberal". You're one of them, obviously.

And you're about 30% of the electorate.

We've all heard the old song before. The 1980 of the old song didn't work because a sea change was coming. My Republican parents are tired of us running up the credit card to occupy Iraq. They told me they're voting for Barack Obama.

It's now 2008. This isn't Bush the First vs. Mike Dukakis.

Be careful what you wish for. It's coming.

Gravatar I wished that Bill Clinton not get his third term, and my wish came true.

I now wish that the most liberal Democrat, with the least accomplishments, be the Democrat nominee.

No matter what happens I will be eternally grateful to never have Hillary president. Maybe the price I have to pay is four years of starry-eyed liberalism, but that will innoculate America against ever voting someone as far left and unaccomplished as Obama in again.

And I'll never have to watch Hillary introduced as "Madame President."

I'm always careful what I wish for, because sometimes wishes come true.

At least in fairytales.

And so far I'm 5-0 in my wishes: no Gore, no Kerrey, no Hillary, and two young conservatives on the Supreme Court.

So I mustn't get greedy.

But I know I will.
