"First of all, let me say that I don't understand, like, watch or have any intention to learn about cricket."
Nor do I, however apparently they hadn't won 'the ashes' for 18 years or something, and hence why there was a bit of a fuss made about it.
Sticking with the news (rather than broadcasting generally), that sort of thing doesn't really bother me. When a situation like that arises I just watch the concurrent news program on the other channel. I vote with my remote control.
While such things as English sporting victories are not something I am likely to be interested in, when it comes to world news I am not confident that a Scottish broadcaster could match the resources that a UK wide one has, and consequently it would not come up to the standards I as a viewer have grown accustomed to. I would therefore not wish to lose my access to UK wide broadcasts.
“There are enormous disparities between what Scots pay for with regard to broadcasting and the representation they receive in return.
Rather than arguing over who gets what share of the non voluntary license fee, perhaps it would be better to abolish the BBC and let the market decide.

"Rather than arguing over who gets what share of the non voluntary license fee, perhaps it would be better to abolish the BBC and let the market decide."
Absolutely correct.

Abolishing the BBC and letting the market decide
The BBC are merely symptomatic of the present malaise. The government owns the terrestrial airwaves, and licenses them exclusively to London networks, be they BBC, ITV, C4 and C5.
A BBC-led consortium owns the Freeview business which does not offer "regional" licenses - but which does offer up to 9 BBC TV channels and a further 10 BBC radio channels.
Sky owns the satellite broadcasting business and charges companies to utilise its platform. Of course, Sky is also a broadcaster and sells packages of channels - none of which offer localised channels, all of which offer Sky channels.
The present broadcasting arrangement is a nest of conflicts, generalisations, overpricing and devoid of standard quality requirements. Abolishing the BBC wouldn't even come close to making this particular market "free".

"The time is not now" - you sound like the Brit Nationalist Labour Party. Every morning when Scottish nationalists awake they should think "how can I attack the Brits today?"
The tippy toe nationalism of the SNP will never win us independence. All out, full spectrum opposition to Brit rule and Brit games is what is needed. Letting the Brits dictate the terms of reference is playing their game. Keep it up Christine.

I am a bittie bemused by Christine Grahame's other actions... in one article she was quoted asking for the saltire to fly over Edinburgh Castle to commemorate Wallace's execution, and ALSO talking about preserving "Scotland"'s regiments. Scotland's regiments? They have the highest death rates in the British army, are first in and last out... and to boot, they're made to fight disgusting wars such as Iraq which we should have no part in. Wallace and Scottish cannon fodder don't really fit together.
