A heart attack in your class? That would be terrifying! As for where all the fathers are, that is a huge issue in society today. I know that my dad's presence in my life is huge, and that my daughters love having my quirky husband in their lives. It would be very difficult to be a single parent.

I got all teary eyed. It makes me so grateful for my husband and everything he does with the kids. Funny enough - he is a Sunday School teacher. Hah!
Re: Heart attack in class - wow! That'd be a big checkmark on the list of stresses to deal with this year. I was in class with a fellow 6th grader who had a seizure in band - the instructor handled it fairly well considering he was a recovering stroke victim himself.

As I read, I thought about all the ways my dad was a good role-model for men learning to be fathers, and how good a dad and granddad mr. kenju has been. Unfortunately, the very men who could benefit from reading that will never see it.
A heart attack? I don't blame you for feeling out of it.

I am one of those fortunate mothers whose partner is a present father. He walks the girls to school, he helps with homework, he is a huge part of their lives. I'm grateful for him for being so enthusaistic about his job as dad, and I love the example of manhood he is setting for them, but I fear for their future boyfriends. I doubt many guys will be able to live up to his example.

reading... reading... okay.... good.... thinking of my teenage son sullenly helping me with yardwork before I release him to go back to his xbox... almost finished.... heart attack!? ERK! Where'd that come from? Who knew it was sweeps week?
Condolances to you and everyone affected. Best wishes and prayers for your (presumed) student's recovery.
Just a reminder of priorities. -cp

YIKES!!!! That last sentance sent me for a loop.
Re fathers, I do worry about my son not having his dad now that he's entering adolescence. There are men in his life, teachers, golf pro, etc. ... but I know he misses his dad desperately.
My sister has pointed out, though, that when his dad was alive he wasn't exactly Father of the Year. He tried, but just didn't have the tools in many ways to be a good dad. But what he did have was a bottomless pit of love for my son, and that counts for something.
Maybe the fantasy of him is better than what the reality would have been. Still, there are times when I'm just exhausted and wish that he was around to pick up the slack a bit... and to fill that hole in my son's heart he created so unnecessarily, thanks to the almighty cigarette.

I hope the student is ok ((((Hugs)))) That must have been so scary for you too.
I am *so* grateful that my husband is a very "hands-on" dad. Chaperone, attends special events (unless work is a bear), takes the kids to dr. appts (heck, takes ME to appts)....not only did he change diapers, he tried to convert people to cloth dipes LOL.
My dad worked hard for my family, but he wasn't there for many things. I do wish we were closer but I think he does the best he can.

How sad.
In Israel things are far from perfect, no where are things perfect, but fathers are more involved. Even when there's divorce, because it's a smaller country, there's more contact.
