Tell me what you really think.

Since I live out of the town where I teach, I don't get too much of this contact outside of school with students stuff. But once, two students who were absent from (I was going to say missed, but they probably didn't miss it much) my class that day were in this quick-e-mart that I stopped at. They had the nerve to be perfectly healthy, and offer to give me a "student sees teacher" hug. It was really weird, on my part. I don't know how THEY felt. Hopefully guilty. But I doubt it.

Meds make sense.
Have you ever had a student that you'd bet the farm on?
I was thinking about that in a meeting a while ago, with lots of fresh faces. Only one, I thought, had what what it took to make it.
Am I sounding like my father, or have we really dumbed down?

Yeah, having the electrician's skills is fun.
But I still get the story told that when I was two, my pre-school teacher came up to me in the supermarket and talked to my mom, and I turned SCARLET.
Apparently, it was the first time I blushed.
Miss Walters, someday, I may forgive you.

Well, I don't know if I was the student she would bet the farm on, but I'm certainly glad she was my teacher back in the day.
Now that I teach myself, there is an older student (think 64 or so) that I really appreciate having in class. He's there for the sheer joy of learning music theory and his enthusiasm is infectious. When a family situation came up and he had to disappear for a year to deal with it, it broke my heart. When I saw his name back on the rolls this year, I did a little whoop myself. I've made it my personal mission to make sure this fella becomes a composer.

When I was in grade 12, my mother (she's not known for her mental stability, lets clear that right up) thought that I should "get to know" the single, young (23) math teacher. It was a small church school, Dad was the pastor. She saw nothing wrong with inviting this teacher to our home every week after church. He always came, because he thought she was just taking him under her wing. YEARS later, after he was married, he and I were talking about those days, and I told him what she was up to. We were both suitably horrified.

My favorite college professor offered me a nanny job for the summer, and all I could think was "you have kids?" You are right about context. My kids freak out if they see the Kindergarten teacher at the mall. I guess teachers aren't supposed to be shopping. maybe that's why they aren't paid well.
I've linked to you - you are fantastic

Ah the power!
My kids are the same way when they see a teacher out and about, especially in the grocery store. "MOM! There's Mrs. T! I can't believe it!" What teachers don't eat? I always tell them to go over and say hello. They won't though. They prefer to make themselves smaller and just stare. Funny.

The professor of my current class gave a quiz on the readings at the third class. He's great, though and few in the class take issue with the rigorous program. thanks for posting.

What a beautiful post. Never have I been made to feel so antiquated by such eloquence in such an unoffensive manner. You are truly a magician...or witch...or something to that effect.

My wife teaches college, and her class is required for folks going into nursing school, radiology, etc.
On extremely rare occasions she has been known to write on letters of recommendation (to get into nursing school) "I would let this person actually be my nurse." That's high praise, coming from her.
And we do see the 'kids' (some are older than we are) around town. They usually try and run away so they don't have to chat.
Another thing, we're foster parents, and when we first started we ran into one of our case workers at the store. But we had split a pitcher of margarita's and don't quite remember what was said. Lots of laughing, I remember that...
