I keep my own personal geek at home to tend to such things such as backing up data, and reinstalling programs. that leaves plenty of time for taking nice nappie-poo's!
I know I've gotten too much into blogging. I'm helping a friend with some major computer issues and may have to reformat it. I thought about having to do that to mine, and my first thought was "Thank heavens my blog will be safe!"
Bless your heart! This is truly a nightmare. Hope all turns out okay. I was without a computer for a week this summer when mine had to be repaired. Wow! Was I shocked at how dependent I was on it. And that was pre-blog! Bless your heart.... Crossing my fingers for you...
I hope that when your prince arrives to wake you, he turns out to be a qualified and competent techie.

Phew, I take a week off for sick leave and it takes me 2 days of worktime surfing to catch up with your blog.
As for the 'puter, switch it off, give it a good hard kick and switch it back on again. Why do you think it's called rebooting =)
I don't have any qood ideas either that would help you. I told my computer it was two weeks ago when I had a problem, it went back there and it fixed my problem. I didn't lose anything really important........
You've hit upon my biggest fear. I know nothing about backing up my computer and I'm too embarassed to tell anyone.

i don't have any good ideas either, other than my usual for windows users "buy a mac, then drop that pc out of a window in a tall building. or use a baseball bat. it's gratifying either way."

If it only does bad things when certain apps are running, trying uninstalling then reinstalling just those apps. To reinstall Windows it would have to be catastrophic failure all day, every day for me because it just wipes everything. Of course, it's like having a brand new computer when you're done but what a pain!
Someone once suggested that I back-up my brain.
It crashed.
Hopefully your computer is more stable.

Shhh I'm whispering this, don't let my computer know but I am replacing him in a few days. Don't tell though, if he hears he will probably eat all my files (again) before I can secure them. This is just between you and I, shhhh.
