Tell me what you really think.

Gravatar I never thought of it like that. You're good, lady. I think you're right.

Gravatar I think any man who's got the balls to join a 'mommies' group would be a worthy member indeed.

Gravatar Here in the UK we have 'parent and toddler groups' also known as 'stay and play'. Still hard for men though as most of the parents looking after pre-schoolers are female. I had a friend some years ago who was a single dad, and he begged me to go with him and his daughter to the stay and play so that he would have someone to talk to. I witnessed him being ostracised by a bunch of mums; he put up with it week after week because he knew his daughter needed the stimulation and the company of other littl'uns. Hard for mums too, I guess, when they don't have much grown-up company during the day and need to talk about their cracked nipples or inconsiderate partners or whatever is on their mind, and want a chance to vent without a man being present. But I never understood why those women couldn't value the fact that he was doing the best he could for his daughter.

Gravatar I can't believe that there is even discussion about "women's lib" anymore. The term is a bit archaic isn't it? I think that the backlash against exclusive male groups is exactly that; backlash. It is misdirected energy and anger for years of true oppression. I think that there is an air of that in much of the anti-racism agenda too (like all of these forced group inclusions and hiring quotas). People aren't happy with things being set right, and in teh process of improving. They want a pound of flesh to boot! Its a scary part of human nature.

Gravatar If women-only groups are outlawed, only outlaws will belong to women-only groups.

The trouble (if one must call it that) is that there are women who would prefer to be in a "safe" environment. And by "safe" I mean away from learing-prone piggish-tending males. I see the way some men act and behave around women, and I can understand why some women would prefer to avoid this.

I would not want to take this "safety" away from women. As a man, it's just not my place.

Gravatar I tried going to a Mother's Day Out program once. You'd have thought the very devil himself had walked through the door.

hmmmm ... Maybe he did.
