(bc- before children) we used to see how close we could get to midnight before we dumped the envelope in. it was kind of a party atmosphere in our little downtown. the mailmen would stand at the curb with big baskets on the ends of long poles.
(drive-up mail was years away at that point.) hope the government didn't get too big a bite!

Heehee, and I thought I was late this year, I took mine to the post office 15 minutes before it closed, at 4:15, I live in a little town so our post office doesn't stay open late.
