Bless the ones with good hearts. It comforts me to know that there are still good people left in this world!

What a nice post! I have to admit that I am often jaded by the not-nice people I come into contact during the course of my day, and I forget just how many really wonderful, caring people there are. Thank you for pointing one out to me. (I know of another, who makes her blog home right here.

That boss will never earn the respect of her people. It's better to support your staff, then you have people who enjoy being at work, and that results in happier customers. Guess the deli manager could use some people skills training.

Aw dammit Mamacita, stop making me cry over something so simple as love for another human being. Sheesh woman.

Great blog; I really like your template, too. As Arnold says, "I'll be back!" Thanx for the positive thoughts.

I've always felt the scales were tipped in favor of good people. Moreover, I think the bad people aren't really "bad" they just lack the skill neccessary to react appropriately to relational situations.
Some good people have bad days and appear as bad people. That would be me.

Wish I had been there to jump over the counter with you. While you put the apron on, I could have had a "chat" with the boss. Oh boy could I ever!

This is sorta out of order -- but YES, you may print the "credit collector" thing and send to your Mom -- after all, I stole it from somebody else!!! LOL

Nice story. I've been seeing a lot of the bad side recently. My 5 year old daughter prayed today that people would be nice to her mommy (someone got out of their car to yell at me yesterday in front of her). Thanks for reminding us about the good people out there.

Cut and paste this in a letter to the manager of the store. The woman behind the counter should be recognized for her efforts.

That "manager" (i use the term loosely) needs to be "retrained" (using sharp objects and heavy mallets sp?) on what it means to be a human being. Nothing like a little pain to remind us how fragile we are.
That business is harsh, though. I'm sure he's probably had to stay at work when someone close to him was ill. The problem is that he expects others to do the same for a relatively lesser reward than his.
I blame it all on capitalism. How many times have you gone to the deli, to find it closed, and instead of thinking some poor woman had to leave to care for her sick mother, you think how inconvenient it is you can't have a ham sandwich with provalone on a good russian rye with spicy mustard? Darn it! I'm hungry now. I hope the deli lady's mom's ok... so she'll be at work, if for no other reason.

The boss is a chucklehead.
The co-worker is an angel.
More bosses need to understand things and not think about the bottom line all the time.

I do believe I would have gone over the deli manager's head and had a chat with the store manager. Nothing quite like being treated to your own treatment to drive a point home.

A pox hex to the deli-manager-what a fruit that one is.
And a big hug to the kind co-worker who stepped in to make a huge deposit in the bank of goodwill.

This was a wonderful post, but it is a shame that it's almost always we little people with the big hearts. Why don't more bosses care? (I work in a school with a fantastic admin, so I am not complaining!)

I'm with Garrison--I'd have said something to the store manager. Both complimenting the worker who filled in and mentioning how I wasn't sure I wanted to shop in a place where management treated the employees like that.
