I kinda miss dandelions... I don't think we have those here in Florida. The ferns eat them all.

I was in charge of a big corporate campus in New York state once, and our landscaper defined "weed" for me: a weed is something growing that you don't want.
You're right: enjoy them. And I have seen some spectacular wild flower patches on the interstate highways this year, too.

I so agree. I just wish my neighbor wasn't so annoyed with me for not getting a proper gardener.

I mow around patches of wild flowers here. They are so pretty and FREE and need no tending from me. WHY would I mow them down? Of course the neighbors give me strange looks. But who cares. They need no tending from me. And are pretty. and Free. did I mention that already?

My son picks the bright yellow flowers from our lawn and rushes them to me as if they were long-stemmed roses. It is so sweet and heart warming, and fills me with joy. Not only because of his loving gesture, but also because a picked flowering dandelion will never go to seed (HA!).

I think those are wild phlox, aka, wood phlox. Aren't they beautiful? My dad always told us the little black spot in the middle of Queen Anne's Lace was a bug that would crawl away when we weren't looking so I would watch those things a long time. Lilacs, done now for this year, are the best. Copping the neighbor's lilacs only makes them bloom more prolifically the next year. As Hoss would say, I always vote yes for swiping lilacs.

Oooh! Come to my house! It's like a Botanical Garden over here. I tell my husband we should be professional dandelion growers. Or at least enter some of them in the county fair.

The first time I ever saw dandelions with stems longer than 3", I didn't recognize them. They can be really beautiful, in fields, with long stems waving in the wind.

We received a nice gift from Lu in the mail and they are in full bloom on the counter and they are beautiful. A nice vase of flowers is so relaxing!

I LOVE your kids/flowers comparison! I'm going to send this post to our school superintendent. Not that he will do anything, but at least I'll have spoken.
