Why didn't she put the damn dogs in the basement? Or better yet, take them to the SPCA. I have no sympathy for people who keep dangerous animals (and pit bulls are) around their homes and their children - or other people's children.
What a crazy women - you just dont put your children in that kind of danger....

My first thought, too, was why put the *child* in the basement and not the dogs -- or do away with the dogs altogether. The mother's post-mortem comment that "of course the son didn't listen" (implying, "stupid disobient kid") bespeaks of her heartfelt attitude towards her child. Too bad no charges have yet been filed: I'd love to see her sentenced to a cell filled with pit bulls. If she's smart, she'll just stay away from them.

At least if the dogs were in the basement and chained to something they probably couldn't've gotten out, unlike a child.
I think the bigger question was why was the bitch in heat? Unless you're a breeder, you should spay/neuter your dog to prevent the many thousands of strays that get turned out on the street or put down at shelters every year.
I read about this on another blog. Just insane!! I don't understand why she locked her son in the basement and gave the dogs the freedom of the house. She knew they were dangerous - she should be charged!

In the annals of bad mothers, I think this one takes the prize. I have no patience for any dog owner that doesn't feel a responsibility to ensure that the dog is not a threat to others - but her own child?
I'm absolutely speechless. I think she should be locked up in a room full of pit bulls for a while. Let's see if she makes it out alive. Or perhaps she'll get really lucky and find out what her son went through.
