I agree with you Mamacita. I don't know how you feel about Bush, but he really said it well when he said ( I am paraphrasing), "It is time to stop the soft bigotry of low expectations."
Have a great time with your guests!

It's going to be an interesting wake-up call when those kids get into the workforce and discover that *gasp!* they will quickly lose their jobs for sub-performance. Unless they become unionized, tenured teachers (ow!)

What I thought was nice about it was that the superintendent seemed to be saying it's all the teachers' fault. Well, anybody could see that....

That article seriously burnt my ass.
It's always somebody else's fault.

But ice-cream is ALWAYS a good idea...I've got Rocky Road. Want some?

With 4 Principals in 4 years I would speculate that the "old guard" - the teachers who are doing as little as possible as they wait to claim their pensions are really the ones running the school. They didn't even have to turn in lesson plans prior to the current principal. Those poor kids haven't a chance and will go on to become day laborers and teenage mothers.

mmm, ice cream. I love Reese's Peanut Butter Cup ice cream, but the ice cream stand that's near my house that sells it shut down. Grrrr...

Arghhhh! This happens here, too. It's called Social Promotion. I guess we assume that the kids we have raised are too stupid to realize they are just being patted on the head, sent on to the next grade so their feelings don't get hurt. I agree with Mellie, real life is going to be a shocker.

LORD HAVE MERCY! Show me ignorance and I'll show you these parents that let their children graduate knowing that they have done JACK CRAP!
My ruffles are standing up on end....idiots.
Now I'm getting close to cussing so I'll eat ice cream too!

It's as though the whole country is playing Follow the Leader in a never ending saga of how much more can we
"dummy down."
Hope you cool off with the pleasure of your young guests and lots of ice cream.

I'm sorry, I thought failing a grade meant you (gasp!) failed, not moved ahead. Silly, silly me.
Of course, I guess I'm still amazed at having an 8th grade "graduation" anyway. Do away with it and being held back becomes much less public.

Um, what exactly is it teaching kids if we honor them when they FAIL? Horror. Really.
