And for the last time, it's "a lot." NOT "alot."
I'm a fairly even-keeled guy, but "alot" sends me into murderous rage.

Oh, please. In this day of instant spell-check there's really no excuse for misspellings. (Wrong homonyms, perhaps, but not misspellings).
Except in IM. And those aren't spelling errors, anyway, they're typo's, which is different.
(I second Wes F. on the 'a lot' issue, btw. This is one of my peeves as well as its vs. it's.)

I rant and rave nearly everyday about the scrolling updates on the bottom of the TV screen; mispellings are common and often hilarious. I sometimes watch TV with the captions on, so if I can't hear well or understand the accents, I can read the script. It is amazing how bad the typists are (surely they are not that stupid?).

Ok, so I want to know what these no bake cookies are. My MIL (alos from Indy) gave me a quick oats/pb/choc recipe for no bake cookies, and it so must be a hoosier thing because I had never heard of them before!!

I hear you on the spelling errors. I constantly see them in our local newspapers and online news. If I had to pick one that bothers me the most it would be the use of LOOSE where one should be using LOSE. Loose only means not tight. It does not mean you can't find something. Sheesh. Good post!

I still can't get over how many people don't know the difference between "its" and "it's." I notice that you, of course, got it right in your post. Thank you.

Why is this chair always so warm threw me off for a moment. You really don't want an answer for that do you?
THANK GOD FOR SPELL CHECK! My brain gets ahead of my fingers sometimes.
I would hire you in a second if you brought yourself and cookies! That's just a great deal in itself!

You know what kills me? The sheer volume of spelling errors I see on CNN. How am I supposed to take them seriously?

This is one of my pet peeves, too. In fact, I have a blog entry sitting in "draft" just waiting to be posted, talking about spelling!

What irks me most is seeing spelling and grammatical errors on educational websites and printed materials. Some months back, I received a leaflet in the mail for a preschool opening in town. They were having a grand opening event, and their notice read (in BIG BOLD TYPE) "Your Invited!" My invited *what*?
Of course, this error is brought to you from the same state which promotes "Reading by 9!" -- meaning, kids need to be reading by age nine. I keep counter-sloganing that with "Breathing by 3!"

Hi, I came here from Vicki. I just had to add my 2 cents. I watch CNN all the time, like an addict, but my favorite thing to do is criticize them. For example, in the week before the London bombing, I heard 2 different newscasters on CNN pronounce Edinburgh as though it rhymes with Pittsburgh. This elicited crows of delight from me because I could complain about it for days.

I've been known to make spelling errors, more in comments than in posts, but I think it's related to hormones. Some kind of weird middle-aged dyslexia and I hit "publish" and blam, there it is.
I would just love to see the scrolling commentary you would put out- could change the shape of news, politics...

I'm begging for the no-bake cookie recipe but I'm one that hates the lose vs loose and there vs their vs they're. It's not rocket science, people. Although, it sounds like even the rocket scientists might have trouble with spelling.

No one can be perfect, however I must also say when it is your job, and you are being paied for it, is simple grammAr too much to ask? Not grmmer with an e, grammAr with an a. There is a difference. Grammer with an e is for CNN, grammAr with an a is for those who at least try.
