Tell me what you really think.

Gravatar I thought it was fart in your general direction. LOL

Gravatar I just thought of something: Who gets the comments we put on here, you or Hubs? If it's Hubs, I'm going to quit being a smart-ass because I don't take well to getting thumped. It takes all the magic out of life.

Gravatar Ummm I'm thinking Monty Python has had a great impact on American society!

Gravatar I can't wait to get my copy either!!!

Gravatar I confess. I read Harry Potter for myself. I hate this deliniation between childrens books and adult books (adult in the non-XXX way). Madeleine L'engle said that childrens books are any books children will read.

It goes both ways.

Gravatar

When I have more time I'll post about why Harry Potter has made more of an impact on our kids' reading habits than any state-mandated program has ever done.

Harry Potter and the Positive Turnaround of American Literacy.

Amen to that! I get so tired of hearing people complain about how evil Harry Potter is. It's fantasy people—and at least kids are reading again!

Gravatar Mine won't be here Saturday because I order the British version from Canada--started that when they heavily Americanized the first few books. Maybe this will give me time to re-read the first five before it gets here!

Gravatar I don't care if it's the Necronomicon - if it gets young kids interested in reading, I'll endorse it.

I haven't read any of the Harry Potter books (I know, I know - the girlfriend has, and I'll borrow hers), but I've really grooved on how much they've inspired kids to read.

WF

Gravatar Wasn't it, "I fart in your general direction"? Tee hee.
You are one Lucky Duck. I pre-ordered my Harry Potter from the local Borders store. I only just yesterday realized that I still will have to wait in line to actually purchase said book. Bah.
Can't wait to read it though!

Gravatar I adore Harry Potter; ordered my copy which I will pick up on the 16th.

I bow in JK Rowling's directions also, and will someone tell the Pope to stay out of children's literature? Harry Potter does NOT dissuade a child from Christianity or any other religion!!

Gravatar I agree-
the Harry Potter series is great for EVERYONE!! : )
I have my 3rd grade class read the story along with the audio cassette for that specific book. This helps the child with "fluency", vocabulary, creativity, etc.
Each book, so far, has made me cry...
his parent's "love" for him.

Gravatar I am staying home on Saturday until my book comes--Amazon.com promises to have it delivered by 7:00 p.m. on the 16th.

Gravatar The members of our famiiy are big Harry Potter fans too! Like you, we will be receiving our copy of the new release in the mail on saturday, and we can't wait! Got my little email from Amazon.com and everything!

Today I did a little searching on the web today for info and rumors on book six, and found some interesting things.

Among them was a "Fan Fiction" website. This is basically a web site where someone (the author goes by "Kim") has written a couple of books based on Harry Potter Characters, and published them on the Web.

I started reading the first one called Harry Potter and the Mirror's Gift. I'm about a quarter of the way through it, and its not too bad! I downloaded the first half of it into my palm pilot, to read when I have a few moments to spare.

I only wish I would have known about this several months ago when our family was in real need of a Harry Potter Fix! I started reading the first couple of chapters of it to my family tonight, and the kids didn't want to stop -- it was bedtime nonetheless, but I read a couple of more chapters to my wife later in the evening.

Its not the same quality of JK Rowling's writing, but its not too bad either. Good enough to tide you over until the next HP book comes out, anyway.

Go ahead and take a look, I think you will be pleasantly surprised!

Gravatar The popularity of Harry Potter amazes me. I have the first book on tape because I needed something to keep me occupied on a long road trip and inspiration to help a friend paint her child's bedroom in a Harry Potter theme. We thought she'd grow out of the paint scheme quickly, but even though she's a teenager now she still loves it.

Hello, Michele sent me.

Gravatar harry potter rocks!!! LOL!!!

Gravatar Not reading the Potter books, but you may be pleased to learn that I've recently picked back up on Madeleine L'Engle and am in the process of reading "A Wrinkle in Time". All thanks to your strong recommendation. This time? I'm enjoying it. And so you, Mamacita, are also helping to promote literacy.

Gravatar My daughters (18 and 19) have planned their entire weekend around the expected delivery of the new Harry Potter to our front door. They have worked out who gets it first (the fastest reader) and who gets it last (my poor husband, because he is the slowest reader).

Gravatar Well, what IS so great about Harry Potter? Is it really any better than T.H. White, Edward Eager, E. Nesbitt, not to mention Bradbury, Heinlein, Silverberg, L'Engle, McCaffery? Is it just the marketing?

Gravatar Does it make me a bad person because I have never read a Harry Potter book?

Michele sent me!

Gravatar hm you make me think that I should try this out...maybe I will start by watching the movie?? TTYL here from michele's

Gravatar Thank God for J.K. Rowling the future generation of kids will know how to use their imagination and learn proper grammar and it's just wonderful that she has written these books..my..I am glad though that they did the unveiling of the book over the weekend so the kids won't have to skip any school the next day..Sam's Club had tons of the books the very next morning for sale..no lines...just lots of books at a discount price!

Gravatar Sorry to disagree with anyone so fluent in Python, but the idea that Harry Potter has revived children's literacy is, (sorry) purest SCHEISS.

While there are kids who are being turned into REAL readers by these books, a whole lot more read the book, stick it on the shelf and go back to the Nintendo and the TV for another 3 years.

Reading Harry is great. But it's getting that kid to read another book. And another book. And another book. Which seems to be more work than most parents seem to want to take. So much easier to say, "oh, he loves reading. He's read all the Harry Potters....."

Too bad Harry Potter can't just wave his wand and MAKE them all readers. But it doesn't work that way....
