Yes, you're so right about the right kind of chip. I'll go one step further and specify the exact type - thin cuts salt and vinegar, I'd pass on a real lay anytime for those.
Lay's Potato chips are the best--and personally, I prefer a flavored Lay--har har--barbeque!

I love Old Dutch potato chips. They're in Canada and they're soooooo good. Even better than Lays.
I just came from Poopie's where she was talking about her recipe for roasting fresh-picked pecans, and now you're talking about potato chips. It's not even time for Monday Night Football yet and you guys are already killing me with the snacks. :p

I only like the Baked Lays. For all else, I rely on the Pringles.
Frito Lay is "elitist" about their potato sources: THEY provide the potato eyes to their growers. THEY control the growing and harvesting of a very select hybrid potato.
And if you can ever get your hands on a few, you'll discover the best baking potato that you CAN'T get on the open market..
I love Cape Cod chips in the same way, but they show the love in my butt and waistline, so I don't have them very often. Lay's are good, too, but they just don't have that firm crunch I like. But, hey, I love a good Cape Cod just doens't have a ring to it!
There's been a potato chip renaissance in the last few years. I like chips but never eat them because I'll eat the whole damn bag--therefore, I rarely buy them. Then I went to the store. Now there's pepper flavored chips, lime flavored (actually, that one's not new, but more brands now offer it), more brands of spicy chips, a new variety of cheese flavored chips, and my new personal favorite.....dill pickle.
