Tell me what you really think.

Gravatar Hi, Mamacita, I'm commenting today to say that Michele sent me. But I come here often on my own. I rarely comment, though, because - as with this post today - you write so well and make so much sense that I don't have anything to add except 'hear, hear' or 'I agree with you', and usually by the time I get over here a dozen or more people have already done that. But I always enjoy reading your posts and your generous, humorous, level-headed take on life.

Gravatar LOL. Michele sent me too - you are the site of the day. I compliment your blog.

Gravatar Hi, Mamacita (I love your name). I am here via Michele's this time, congratulations on being the site of the day. Since this is a foreign language for me, I enjoy your posts about the English language. I can always use some tips to improve my writing, my blog keeps my brain cells working. Have a wonderful day!

Gravatar Punctuation sounds like an absolutely wonderful way to begin the week.

Gravatar Congrats on being Site of the Day. I don't know how you teachers do it. You are, I assume, a teacher, right? Punctuation rocks and it's my pet peeve when it's done wrong. Thanks for helping to fix that.

Michele sent me...

Gravatar I agree whole heartedly with your post. I am always amazed at how quickly people will adopt gramatically incorrect speech patterns, as I find it jarring and unplesant to hear. Michele sent me today.

Gravatar Hi Mamacita, Michele sent me today. You are a pedant after my own heart. I hear myself giving my children exactly the same lessons and corrections my mother gave to me: 'you may have many choices but only one alternative', for instance!
I must remember your analogies about maths and music - thank you once again for your beautiful writing.

Gravatar Beautifully written, as always, Mamacita. I agree wholeheartedly. Since I got out of school, I have forgotten a lot about grammar and I need a refresher course. I wish I lived close to you so I could take the class from you! My tendency to use the semicolon and exclamation mark needs to be curbed.

Congratulations on being the site of the day again; you ARE worthy.

Michele sent me this time, but you know I am here everyday, rain or shine.

Gravatar eye luv dis entree 'n feal tha simalah way az yew doo. Itz dryven me nutz ta sea errahs 'n sich.

Happy Halloween! Can you tell what my costume is? I'm sarcasm LOL! Oh, and hi, Michele sent me

But I really do agree with you; like it or not, we are judged on our language skills, or lack thereof.

Gravatar just spent 10 min going through your photos...they're great.
Michele sent me~

Gravatar Hey, Michele sent me! And yes, your love of our language comes through loud and clear!

Gravatar Your students are lucky to have someone as passionate as you for a teacher!

Michele sent me -- Happy Halloween!

Gravatar Hi! Here from Michele's. Congratulations!! I love your blog.

Gravatar Grammarcita, you rock!

Gravatar Hi Mamacita, I've always wished I would have done something in the area of English. Great post! Here from Michele's...

Gravatar Hello, Michele sent me today. Best of luck with NaNoWriMo... I'm putting my blog on hold for a month while I try it myself. With punctuation, that is!

Gravatar Oh! Oh! Look at you.... do you get to wear a sparkly tiara?

And a *repeat* site of the day too! I always say you can never get too much of a good thing. You are *always* my site of the day. xoxo

Gravatar I love to read your site, but rarely comment.
Congrats on being the site of the day! Michele sent me.

I think you are right about language. I wish I had a teacher like you. Then maybe I would feel more positive about my writing, nevermind grammer. I love to see Passion in a teacher!

Gravatar Hello. Michele sent me. I wish I knew more about punctuation than I do. I'm reading Eats Shoots & Leaves in my feeble effort to understand. Wish me luck!

Gravatar Hello Mamacita, Michele sent me!

Congratulations on site of the day, I've never been here before but it sure looks interesting.

Gravatar Punctuation is the skeleton that allows language to dance and move.

Michele sent me.

Gravatar Michele hasn't sent me...yet. I haven't worked my way down to her on my blogroll yet this morning. But yay! Repeat site of the day!

Gravatar Wishing everyone on my blogroll a boo-tiful day! LOL!

Happy Halloween!

Gravatar Happy Michele Sent Me Again Day

And Happy Halloween!

Gravatar Hey! Michele sent me! Congrats on being site of the day!

People that don't use punctuation annoy the hell out of me! Especially in email. Just because it's online doesn't excuse you from using punctuation, capitalization, and proper spelling! Oh yeah, and turn off the caps...

Gravatar Oh no. You are talking to me aren't you? Your are lecturing the class but looking straight at me. I'm so embarrassed! I don't always get my punctuation right. I'm big with the commas. I usually write the way I speak but my spelling is good, usually. Can I redeem myself with just spelling?

Actually, not with myself (because I do it unintentionally), but I especially love broken grammar rules for effect. I'm still impressed when I feel myself getting angry/excited when someone writes about their Very. Exciting. Day. I guess I love to read people who know the language well enough to go totally against the rules and have it work in their favor.

Gravatar Another passionate language teacher here too..

And I SO agree...

Minerva

Gravatar It's been a long time since I've surfed the net courtesy of Michele. I'm glad that today brought me to your site. I truly enjoyed myself.

Hello from Michele!!

Gravatar Blog of the day! Congrats, halloween of all days.

Gravatar Hello and thanks for the punctuation treat! I guess that means I can't haunt the site tonight.

Here today via Michele!

Gravatar Hola Mamacita. Michele sent me.

I, too, love language and the punctuation that goes along with it. I guess it comes from my years as an editor. Still, I am very nervous and have read this comment over and over searching for typos.

Gravatar I agree! Sometimes I feel like the grammar police.

Gravatar Happy Halloween, Mamacita! Michele sent me (today)!

Gravatar Well, of course you're right. But what about the school of thought that says, "Can you understand what I'm sayin'?" And if the answer is "Yes," is that good enough? As a "pro" in writing (supposedly), this has long bothered me.

Gravatar Love your blog!
BTW Michele sent me!

Gravatar Hi there. Michele sent me.

Technically, I suppose that one post is a lousey statistical sample, but it won't stop me from using it as such. If this represents your passion and enthusiam in the classroom, then I hope my children end up with teachers like you someday.

Gravatar I'm here just because I love to read what you write. Nobody sent me.
(I, too, love our language. I'm wondering if I will feel this way Nov. 30.? That's more than 1600 words a day! The thought renders me speechless.) My mother was my English teacher for two years and she is still an incredible stickler when it comes to grammer and punctuation. I fear I take far too many liberties; it's residual defiance.

Gravatar Here from Michele's, and I cannot believe I've never been here before! This post was so eloquent! I will be back many times.

Gravatar One of the very first posts I wrote - back in July 2004 - was about punctuation, specifically the misuse of apostrophes.

If you write like a dumbass, people may assume that you are a dumbass. Funny how that works, innit?

Gravatar My daughter and I struggle over her writing skills. Or, lack of is more exact. She rushes through her writing, her sentences run on, and I try to explain over and over that she needs to give people a rest when they are reading her thoughts.

*sigh*

One day...

Gravatar I think that my grasp of the English language, at least in the punctuation and proper use areas, is pitiful. That's a damn shame, considering I had an above-average public school education. (By "above-average" I mean 99th percentile in our state for standardized tests and grad levels, a well-funded area, etc) I wish I understood more of the "rules" of American English.
