Tell me what you really think.

It's wrong that the majority no longer wins in a democratic society. And if the arguement is separation of Church and state, then no religion should be represented in the schools. And I think we are beginning to see what happens to our children when we take away faith and prayer and God. Just watch the 5:00 news.

I agree with you on this one.
Christmas and all its religious content should not be taken out of the schools. It creates a void in our society.

It's getting a lot of attention since John Gibson has a book, and a forum from which to promote his book on Fox.
There is also (rightly so) a growing frustration with the intent to twist freedom of religion in freedom from religion. As a society, we are beginning to lose sight of working towards a greater good, and working towards imagined slights.

Rather than remove stuff, be MORE inclusive. Problem solved.
The War on Christmas brigades don't want freedom of or from religion. They want THEIR religion.
Majority rule MUST include minority rights.
And be honest, Mamacita - in Our Home Town, anyone who wasn't a Good Christian (a definition that, often, excludes Catholics, Mormons, and mainline Protestant sects, not just non-Christians) would be shunned. There's a reason I left and don't look back.
And to the first commenter, there are literally hundreds of reasons we are a more violent society. School prayer and mandated Bible readings (KJV, no doubt) had nothing to do with it.
I love Christmas. I love everything about it. But there is not a war here, there, or anywhere outside the mind of the slackjaws who produce and watch Faux News.

So, can I just hire you to speak for me on just about everything? Seems I always agree with you - and you say it so well!

So. I have a theory about why schools are so skittish about Christmas. It involves the Christian right yelling loudly that the ACLU will come down on you like the Hammer of Thor if you dare to mention Christmas in the classroom. Alas, it's not true. The ACLU only cares if Christmas is mentioned and no other religions are mentioned. But in screaming so loudly about it, the Christian right has made a self-fulfilling prophecy. So when one parent bitches about something and the school reacts by yanking the offending something, guess whose fault it is?
I'm all for inclusiveness. Christmas doesn't have to be about god [it certainly isn't for me]. You can have a Christmas tree and a Menorah and a Festivus pole and everything else.

mac - There was a great Dave Barry column in which he described an average (mid-1980s) beer commercial as a bunch of men sitting around, then "Oh no! The barge is loose!" "We're working hard to get the barge back!" "Wasn't that great? We got the barge back! Let's have some beer!" and then, much later, "Hey! Let's go set the barge loose again!"
What you're describing is kind of like that. And probably accurate.

The tyranny of the majority is a problem, but the Holy Spirit's message on The Christian Prophet blog today goes into reasons why public schools are a problem.

You know, if you get rid of all the celebration, all you have left is Flu Season. What is wrong with people?
