If I don't get the flu shot, I get the flu. Every time. Last year it knocked me off my feet, literally.
While I can't offer your son any immediate advice, I'd strongly suggest that next year, and every year thereafter, he get the shot.
It's well worth it.

I'm sending feel-better vibes and cyber-chicken-noodle-soup (homemade, of course) over the Interweb and hoping that he's feeling better soon!

Flu, egad. I can't take a stupid flu shot, so I've been reminding them that THAT box of kleenex over THERE is for THEM, with a trashcan right THERE for them to use, and to stay the hell away from my desk, my trashcan, and my kleenex. I told one kid that if I got sick from him dragging his droooling, oozing self to class, I was going to go to his home and make his mom take care of me.
His horrified look was priceless. The next day I got a note from his mom, saying, "Come on over, as long as I still get to watch 'Days.'"
So there. I'm set.
But I am sorry about your poor baby. Wishing him much better health. You're a good mom.

Your son sounds sort of like an approach-avoidance proposition at the moment, Jane. I'll send him get well vibes. (oh, tee-hee. I did a typo and it said "get well vices" before I corrected it).
Okay- back to minced meat. I like it. Especially in dough. So, I'm glad you explained about sarmas (I didn't want to be the one who asked)- they sound sort of like tapas. Which are also good. Come to think of it, most food is good. Now I'm hungry.

"...cooked together in boiling water for several hours." Really? Cabbage leaves don't turn to mush? Everything doesn't turn to mush? You like mush that well?
Aw, heck, Mama, you don't need to answer. I don't have a stove.

Whatever you want to call them, they sure were good. Yum.
Thanks for adding to our festivities, sis! And give your little chef "get-well wishes"

Being of Serbo-Croatian descent, I was curious about "zaprska" myself. Wikipedia, in its article on sarma, says that "zaprska" literally means "flour browned in fat." Another article I found by Google-ing refers to it as a type of roux.
I enjoy your blog so much. Your students are very lucky.
