We get light flickers all the time out here too. I was thinking just the other day how scary it would be if the power went out while I was on the treadmill. Scared the exercise right out of me 
The internet connection is always my first thought when the power goes out. Usually, if I get desperate I can sign up for a quick version of dial up AOL. HA! Glad you got power back quickly!
LOL I posted pics of our power outage this week.
It is a total pain , we can't even flush the toilet if ours goes out because we are on tank water and the pump won't work.

I make soup like that every month, and throw in whatever I find in the fridge and pantry. Last time it had bits of cauliflower and black-eyed peas too, and it was wonderful!
Don't you just love David Sedaris? He is from Raleigh (as I am sure you know).
That recipe can be made a lot simpler and less time-consuming:
Hand out polish sausages. Tell diners to go get whatever they want to drink. Hand out paper towels.

Polish Soup eh.....come cook for me....my beautiful wife is of Norwegian, Finnish, and Spanish heritage and so I don't get stuff like was once served at my grandmas.....

I know. I lose power all the time too, and it's the internet thingy, not the darkness thingy or the cold-thingy that gets me the most.....
