Tell me what you really think.

Gravatar Best post of the week, possibly the month and maybe, the best post of the year.

Gravatar I am so giving this post to my 16 year old!
I love ya more for making the stand my friend.

Gravatar Fabulous. You're my idol.

p.s. I like Ghandi's list better.

Gravatar The ultimate Lenten statement.

"Inferior lifestyles" indeed!

Gravatar Outstanding post, Mamacita. I applaud, and hoot and holler and call "encore!" except you've already said it all. Brilliant.

Gravatar Where did THIS come from? Lets not forget the many immoral sports icons that so many of our young men wish to emulate. Great post though!

Gravatar >>Oh, I'm making lots of friends with this post, aren't I

Sign me up to be one. The fact that sex is everywhere only bothered me on a theoretical level until I started teaching and began to see every day just how very horrible the effects really are. Now it makes me crazy.

I've always felt that schools reflect society. It's families that really have the true power to change things. The problem these days is so many families are enough disconnected that they never get a proper look in the mirror to get a good look at what's what, which leaves the teachers tearing their hair out and blogging while the parents buy their very young girls g-strings so they & their child can feel cool. Like celebrities.

We've lost our way.

Your post points to the way back.

Thanks.

Gravatar "They are clowns."

Those three words sum up this post rather nicely.

As usual, sweet Mamacita, very well said.

Gravatar i stand on my chair and applaud your wise words! thank you for putting them out there. this post will be printed out and passed around for a while at our house. bravo!

Gravatar So, I must try NOT to envy your writing talents and pitch-perfect commentaries?

We are in accord regarding the loveliness of Laura Ingalls Wilder's books and the hideousness of the telly version. I was too mean to ever let my children watch it.

Regarding Gandhi and s_x: Laurie Rozakis' COMMA SUTRA: POSITIONING YOURSELF FOR SUCCESS WITH GOOD GRAMMAR is a new primer methinks you might enjoy.

Blessed Lent, Mamacita!

Gravatar I don't understand why you are not yet Secretary of Education for the entire United States. You would most certainly have my support!

Gravatar I thought that I couldn't like you more than I already did. Then I read this. Now you're my hero!

Gravatar AMEN! This is/should be required reading in elementary school.

I wish I hadn't known so many clowns back then.....

Gravatar The Gandhi quote is in my signoff line at work-- freaky.

IU just had this conversation with one of my classes. Also freaky.

I will post about this later at my place, now that I believe that I'm not being just a dried up old harpy/shrew/fishwife/person who's NEVER BEEN YOUNG AND JUST DOESN'T UNDERSTAND....

Gravatar :::standing up, clapping:::

BRAVO!! BRAVO!!

::tears running down face, sending link to friends::

(you are my hero, you know)

Gravatar Does anybody really think Katie Holmes is lucky?

Yeesh. I hope not.

Gravatar Mamacita, you are a shining light.

Having just turned 30 in December, I can smile knowingly at everything you write here. At the same time, I remember being 18 like it was yesterday, even though it was over 10 years ago. (Don't tell my brain. He'll be crestfallen.)

Fame is IT. And by "it," I mean "the problem."

Even in your post, you quote Ghandi. "I WANT TO BE LIKE GHANDI," some student thinks. And the first characteristic about Ghandi that everyone knows is TRUE is that EVERYONE KNOWS GHANDI. Time and circumstance (and hard work and sacrifice) brought this famous man to where he is today in our minds. But no one sees that at the end of the day. At the end of the day, students think, "Ghandi is great. Ghandi is different from me. I can not be like Ghandi, because Ghandi is Ghandi, and I am me."

So the question is, How do we teach our children and OURSELVES that the struggle--accomplishment, failure, start again, etc.--is life and success and failure, when so much of our messages tell us that the PERSON is to be revered?

Gravatar Sounds like you will make plenty of friends with the common sense. I got here from the Carnival of Education. A great post.
