I kinda miss my great thumping speakers.
I kinda miss the piano, too (though we traded it for a terrific dog and some cash).
I can't say that I miss the dining room. We never used it anyway.

"The piano is able to communicate the subtlest universal truths by means of wood, metal and vibrating air."
~Kenneth Miller
Our piano is a member of our family, too.

I love that the piano wound up in the family hands! So you must at least get to visit it, right?

Oh too cool. We had a grand in what should have been our diningroom as well. We loved that thing and when mom got rid of it we were all heartbroken.
Grandma's spinet replaced it.
Hmmmmm....coincidence?
We didn't get our grand back though.

Sounds like my house growing up, minus the 2 sisters. I loved the baby Grand, it belonged to my Grandmother, and for that reason my Mom hated it (she and Grandma did NOT get along). I loved playing underneath it, reading and was so sad when Mom sold it.

lol, i have unusual items in my dining room as well, an aquarium, an old console...
I love the memory of your shoe buckles on the surface of the grand piano, I too did atrocities of that nature to my poor grandmother's, but ahhh the view up there...

We currently have no piano in our house, but that may have to change.
Our 15 month old son LOVES playing on the piano...he does this at my sister's house and at a neighbor's house. He doesn't just bang several keys in loud thumps, he delicately plays one key at a time and laughes with delight at the music he makes!
We may have to find room in our house for a piano in the future, to encourage this interest that he has at such a young age.

When I was a little girl, my best friend and her family had a grand piano in their living room. I would escape my own loud, scary home and run to Maria's, and sit with her on the bench for HOURS as she played. She eventually taught me how to play Chopsticks and the theme for All in the Family, and I'd practice those tunes over and over again until it was time for me to leave. What a comfort that piano was.

Oh my. That is sad. Not only for you, but it brings memories of mine back. My place of freedom – freedom from the harness of reality – was our swing set. My sister never used it all that much, but I used it until I was way beyond the age and weight limit. To this day you can see the main frame metal bar the swings hung from bowed down towards the ground. The moment I sat on one of those swings it unlocked the cage around my mind and I could imagine things that I did not know you were even allowed to imagine. What freedom it was... Now, I certainly might still want to swing on that swing set, but there are several problems: 1. I do not really have the time anymore. 2. I might be able to cram my butt into the swing if I used a sledgehammer. 3. My mouth is out of practice so I would not be able to make the sound effects as well anymore. 4. We could get a new, bigger swing set, and I am sure I would like it, but it could not ever be as wonderful as that first one. I had so many adventures on that swing that if they were to all be written into a novel it would be a book that would make you get out your microscope to see the Harry Potter books in comparison.

I enjoyed reading about your piano, Mamacita. Maybe someday, you'll get that piano back. I have our old organ, but it is not the same, is it?
