Tell me what you really think.

Your Wal-Mart sounds like our Kmart. My aunt once said, "I don't care how many times they remodel that store and make it look nicer--those same people will be in there, screaming at their kids!"

I'm with you--I'll take Target any day.

Gravatar Your Wal-Mart sounds like our Wal-Mart and your K-Mart our K-Mart. Only our Wal-Mart usually has 20 or so check-out counters open, whereas you have to stand in line for 20 minutes at K-Mart because there's only one check-out person and she's out of quarters.

Still, I much prefer K-Mart, even though the Wal-Mart, to be honest, offers more stuff. And yes, the Martha Stewart stuff is better than whatever they have at Wal-Mart!

Gravatar I don't have a K-Mart. (sniff, sniff.) I have a WalMart, and a Superstore. That's about it. I go to both, but I mutter constantly about the dirty, wild children in both stores. And I cannot understand why Superstore bothers to own 12 cash registers, if they only ever open 3 at a time. WalMart has more open, but they hire the rudest, snarliest kids to walk to earth.

Gravatar I'm so sorry. My children were running amok in your WalMart the other day. I know I know....HB speaks potty talk and HG was yelling at everyone. (especially her brother)
I"ll have them better behaved the next time.
*snicker

Gravatar Heck, here in NYC we don't have a WalMart, I think the KMarts closed down (I remember one in the East Village not doing too well), but Target is doing a thriving business. Go figure.

Anyway, I love Target for my cheap shopping needs. They keep it organized in there, and clean.

Gravatar Your posts so often make me want to invite you to live in my small town. It saddens me that there are places such as yours. On the other hand, they are so lucky to have you.

Gravatar We have them all here.
And I go to House of Tar~shay as
my SIL calls it. (She was comparing the designer baby clothes she got as shower gifts to the real life baby clothes she got at Target).

What I have always disliked about Wallmart is the fact that you can never get anywhere without running their maze of aisles that are designed to lead you past high impulse items.
And the fact that they are ALWAYS calling for extra checkers and they, the extra checkers, NEVER arrive. I think it is a continuing loop of tape they play to give you the illusion of service.

Gravatar We have two Wal-Mart Supercenters here, and having been in the Wal-Mart you describe, I expected the same.

Boy, was I wrong.

Clean, bright stores, and the food! Can you imagine live softshell crabs in season at the seafood counter -- at a Wal-Mart?

Neither could I.

Gravatar I much prefer Tarjay-- I really don't want to help the Walmart sons-in-law buy and ruin ANOTHER professional sports team....

Gravatar I understand your frustration at Walmart--I find that using my MP3 player there while I'm shopping helps.

No more Kmarts here--but that's not a bad thing. I almost got heat stroke before they closed, too cheap to run the A/C. Nothing was ever in stock anyway.

Target used to be nice, but they don't keep it up. At least the pharmacist there is nice.

Gravatar You mention who might need to shop at 3am. Try people who work at night, and they sleep in the daytime. My spouse is a good example. She works a shift that usually goes somewhere from 4p to about 2p. If she needs to get something for the home quick, Wal-Mart, bad as it is (we both overall hate it since it features a lot of the things you describe), is about the only thing open at that time. Nice thing about that time of night is the wild kids are not there. However, the service is still bad, assuming they even have a cashier.

I do remember the days when they used to proclaim they sold "American." Was it really so long ago? Prefer La Maison du Tarjay, but given the budget, you get the idea. Best, and keep on blogging.

Gravatar My local supercenter - pretty much the ONLY choice in town for grocery shopping unless you drive 1/2 hour each way - is like that. I've taken to shopping before 8 am on Saturdays, before all the rude people roll out of bed.

I really loathe how they block the ends of the aisles with "displays" so there's barely a one-cart-width clearance. Especially when that's where people park it to talk with their friends.

At least we have more stringent smoking laws here so people can't smoke in the lobby.

And I never got the thing with allowing kids to play with the toys in the toy section. That's just cheap and nasty - and it means that maybe someone's kid gets a broken or worn toy for their birthday.

If we had a Target in my town I'd never go back. In fact, at times, I've braved the drive just to go to Target instead.
