Tell me what you really think.

Mamacita, you have a way of smacking people upside the head and making them look at the facts head-on. Ouch!

He has cancer. Therefore he must be a saint...

Don't get me wrong. I feel for the man. Having cancer must be horrid. I even feel sorry for his family.

But he's still a creep. Not a saint.

Gravatar You are so right! I don't wish him ill with the cancer, but he is not, nor has he ever been a saint!

Gravatar Being from Boston one would think I would have a word or two with you disagreeing with your statements. This is not to be since you have captured precisely what the majority of my friends feel. Unfortunately our votes count for zip, zero, nada and he still holds that damned seat. Perhaps we have a chance this year with our candidate and now WTH he has to go and get this major sympathy thing....I wonder if it's real. If so, of course, my prayers are with him and his family...meanwhile, I really want someone to take either him or Kerry down. You know. Politically speaking.

Gravatar No one that I know of is a saint, so I reserve judgement. I feel sorry for families that suffer so many tragedies, even when some of them are self-imposed. It is so hard.

Gravatar Oh, goodness, Gemma... I know what you mean.

Spent 8 years (as a kid) there... NOT a fan of that clan! Only decent one I've heard of is the wife of the CA Gov. Rest of the tree seems to be out of Teddy's cloth.

Don't much care for Kerry either... I'm just glad he's finally stopped running for Pres. After all, he's been trying since the Vietnam war!

Gravatar Didn't you know? The media was jubilant because the cancer was announced on a slow news day so they were glad they could do montages of his "greatness" and interviews about his time in the senate 24x7. Portray him as a saint and you can spend more time interviewing people and get more access to "those close to the family". When I see stuff like that, I always keep in mind that a) the media has other motives for how they color the story and b) people will say anything to get on T.V.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. Can you tell?

Gravatar I'm no fan of Ted Kennedy's but really, who is the same as they were almost 50 years ago? I know I'm completely different than I was just 20 years ago. Dis his politics all you want and he sure isn't any saint but my gosh, let the past go a bit! He's as much a victim of his parentage as anyone else here.
End rant.

Gravatar Could it be that we are seeing pre-eulogies? Since recovery is (ahem) not assured, people are already beginning to put all the bad things aside to find the Arguments for the Defense At The Pearly Gates. The Golden Rule in action, perhaps?

Politicians seem to be good at this. When an adversary is effectively harmless, magnanimity is cheap. And politicians are free with other people's currency but sparing of their own.

Gravatar Ok, sis. I feel compelled to point out, again, that people are flawed. People (including politicians) make mistakes. I know you don't agree with much of TK's policies and issues over the years (and you know I do, by the way), but that's no reason to vilify him. He has brain cancer, for god's sakes.

Gravatar I am of an age (barely) that does not get the Kennedy Mystique. However, out superintendent died of a brain tumor this year, and it was absolutely horrible, and I would not wish that on anyone. He does have a knack for working across the aisle. But I remember Mary Jo, too.

Gravatar Also the same kindly white-haired old gentleman who came out of his bedroom without his pants on when his nephew brought a girl home to the mansion whom he'd just raped on the beach. Nuff said.

Gravatar Carolyn R, you are so wrong. He's still a drunkard. The first thing I thought of when I heard Kennedy was in the hospital was liver failure. Until a drunk quits drinking, he's not going to change; why on earth should he?

I'm sorry he has a brain tumor and I hope his passing is painless, and I hope he's a whole lot less scared than Mary Jo Kopechne.

Which brings to mind another question: what craven priest will give him last rites in spite of everything he has done for abortion in his life?

Gravatar At the time of the nephew's rape trial, a comediene said, "It must have been like this on the beach..."You'd better have sex with me, or I'll let my Uncle drive you home." Yes. I have long been puzzled by the way people become instant saints when they become ill or pass away. I don't wish ill will on anyone, but I don't believe his crime, and that is what it was...should be wiped from memory because he is ill. He left a young girl to drown and saved his own ass. He made the decision to save himself and leave her there. And now? Karma.

Gravatar Wow, I am overwhelmed by the vehemence that is coming out of these comments (and frankly, this post). Its ok not to like his politics - although I have to say, he has done more for this country (on both sides of the political aisle) than any other senator that I can think of) - but to be happy that he has brain cancer? People, have a heart! What happened 50 years ago is a tragedy, no doubt - but it was 50 years ago. It might be time to FORGIVE and allow the issue to be between him and his Maker.
And for Gemma to suggest that he is making the cancer up for publicity and to hint at wanting him murdered?! Geez...this might not be a blog that I want to continue reading!

Gravatar You can't blame Mamacita for what commenters wrote, that's not fair. The actual post just says the man's not a saint. It wasn't cruel, just an opinion. Some of the comments are cruel, yes, but that's not her fault, you should know that.

Gravatar Let's put a halt to the comments that are hateful and vicious, please. That was never the intention of this post. I would prefer that people not use my blog as an outlet for hatred. An opinion is one thing, but vitriolic death-wishes are quite another.
