I've got one too -- have no clue what it's for. I went into preferences for toolbars and told it to "always hide" the icon. If I can't see it, I don't have to worry what it's for!
I have it too, and it appeared as if by magic. Apparently it was put there during a Windows update.
Can you post a picture of it? If you hit the key that says "Print Screen"/Sys Req and then go to windows paint and paste it will give you a copy of your desktop. Then you can edit it down into a smaller picture, showing just the icon you are talking about.
I updated and I didn't get one... I don't know whether to feel left out or relieved...
The icon is basically to let you know that the Intel Extreme Graphics software is installed on your PC. I don't remember the kind of PC you have or anything else, but right now it isn't doing you any harm, since it is just useless software anyway. The next time that Belle comes down, I'll take a look at it, unless someone beats me to it.

Uninvited guests should always at least bring a tea cake if they're going to barge in like that. As a Mac user, I'm out of the Windows Mystery Icon Loop, and that's the way I like it!
Maybe it's a symbol like the praetorian pi symbol from "The Net"!! Don't click it!! They'll dissapear you!!
