Tell me what you really think.

IMO, I wonder why her husband didn't see that his wife was going crazy????
She should also lose her reproductive rights....no child deserves a mother such as she!

Gravatar From all accounts, a doctor (or possibly multiple doctors) told her husband she should not have any more children because of psychological issues, but the husband played the "JEEEEEzus!* told me we need more kids!" card.

So yeah, there's some blame for the husband too.

*JEEEEEzus! is no relation to the Jesus of Nazareth of the Bible. Instead, he seems to be a rich white guy who only cares about abortion and homosexuality. A lot of people worship him these days.

Gravatar How right you are.

Gravatar Whether she goes to prison or a mental institution, this woman needs to be locked away from society for the rest of her life. She should also be barred from procreation for the rest of her life. Her husband sounds like a prize jerkface, but that is absolutely no reason to murder another sentient being, let alone five. She drowned five children. Think about that. It's time consuming. She had time to think, to see, to realize, to stop! I can see if she killed one or two, then stopped, allowing her to plead insanity and then locking her away in a mental hospital for the rest of her natural life. Her husband may have been a religious zealot who kept her barefoot and pregnant, but what is worse? An adult who treats another adult with a lack of respect, or an adult who takes out their frustrations on an innocent child? Being treated badly is not a reason to murder five people. It's a reason to seek divorce or separation, and maybe even a reason to seek legal action upon the offending mate - if he hit her, he should go to jail for that, not have his children murdered. To say that the husband is at fault for the murder of his children is like if I punch you in the face for something someone else said to me three days ago in another town. It is unrelated. It takes a long time for one person to drown. Five people takes long enough that at some point it becomes premeditated. Was she thinking about doing in number four while working on number two? She had to have been. And, even if she was so far gone mentally that she wasn't, she still needs to be kept away from people and especially children for the rest of her life. What if she was realeased and tried to start another family? Or, saw someone else out with their kids, had some kind of flashback, and tried to harm other children? A just punishment for assholian behavior is not bereavement of five children, if not for the sake of the a-hole himself, then for the sake of the five children who would probably rather have not been murdered by a supposed trusted adult. I am against the death penalty in all cases. But, I do think she should be locked up for the rest of her life.

Gravatar Yeah I'd change her ex from a selfish holy roller into someone who wouldn't leave his kids alone with someone who's psychotic.

The thing is, deep down I think he knows this. And he'll have to live with it forever.

This is brilliant! Thank you, Wes.

Gravatar It's not a matter of punishing a wicked fiend. All we can do is make sure Andrea Yates receives the treatment she has long needed.

Don't forget Young Earth Creationism and Ending The World.

P.S. Beware of anyone who pronounces "Jesus" with two Es or "Lord" with two Os...

Gravatar I think all the information on this case proves that she belongs in a mental institution, not a prison. I do think, though, that she deserves to be there the rest of her life, not just until she's "better" or well enough to toss back into society.

I do think that the husband is guilty of neglect and abuse. I'm not talking about his wife, here, either. I think he left his children in the care of someone who was obviously mentally unstable and posed a risk to his children. He knew it. The doctors knew it. No one did a thing about it.
