Tell me what you really think.

Gravatar Yes, I am appropriately appalled yet entertained by your tale. A most excellent post.

Please believe me when I say we do begin educating students regarding idioms at an early age. Of course, Peeping Tom is not one I use for our literal meaning/figurative meaning project. It would seem they would have heard or seen the phrase somewhere before college....

Strange and appalling...

I congratulate you for at least having two pairs of mismatched socks. At my house they enter the wash but never come out in any sort of order where they can ever remotely match up. I just put em' in a basket and it's every family member for him/herself.

Gravatar I was appalled at the very beginning! In fact, I am frequently appalled at everything I see....LOL

Fresh pineapple, huh? How 'bout a mai tai?

Gravatar Doesn't surprise me the students don't know who Lady Godiva was nor that they didn't get the Peeping Tom -

What is even more appalling is what some teachers do not know. IT blows me away.

Gravatar tried to go over to patriside's using the link, but it said "URL not found."

Our eighth graders are learning idioms, and boy, I'm out of touch sometimes.

And, what exactly is "tom-catting?"

Gravatar I am appalled. And relieved. I am relieved because I have been feeling sorry for myself. My students didn't do their major homework assignment, 300 points, this last week. At least half of them skipped it.

I don't feel quite so alone now.

You know, though, maybe it's not too bad that they don't know what a peeping Tom is. I learned after an uncle-by-marriage-who-has-since-been-disowned was arrested for just that offense.

Gravatar But I bet they all scored high on Self Esteem (TM)...

Gravatar I can understand Lady Godiva. But who hasn't heard of a "peeping Tom"? You'd have to be living under a rock!

(No offense Suzi, or everyone else who'd said they hadn't heard it)

I dunno...maybe I just run in weird circles, but...

Gravatar Let me see was the answer Peeping Lot's wife? Wait that is a salt and pepper story. I give up. Hey don't call me an idiom!

Gravatar ...and you're my angel (as always), linking me madly for this mixmania! - plenty of room to join, folks!

I love youuuuuuuu...

Gravatar Students can certainly be creative. When we do geography, many of my students put Montreal in Switzerland--and other unbelievable locations. Huh?

Gravatar Appalled, yes. Especially since the answer was in the question. Appalled about the Pentagon and Eiffel Tower too. Is this a "remedial" class? How old are these kids?

There is one answer you could have gotten.... not an idiom though. I was thinking that dear little Tom, struck blind while peering at Lady Godiva, had obviously seen a "sight for sore eyes."

Gravatar I have shoes to match your stockings -- maybe we can swap.
