Well, when I yank my 2nd grader on Monday to homeschool him, try not to hate me lol
Seriously, his teacher hasn't fully grasped the English language after 12 years of teaching. She has said things like "more better", "unpleased", "looking forwards to", and just yesterday told me in reference to my son's "behavior problems" that "smartness is not the problem". Um, yeah. Not for her either I guess.
At any rate, he is reading at 4th grade level and above (chapter books at the rate of 6 a week including the Narnia books) and is bored to tears and she refuses to challenge him.
I do wholeheartedly agree that some people do it for reasons other than education. Like laziness and not wanting to get everyone ready and out the door on any given day. I've seen it and it makes me ill.
The rest of my children are thriving and well in public school and we remain as involved as possible. It's just too bad that most parents don't give a hoot about education. Like your neighbors. WHY would anyone leave their children home to teach themselves? I bet we all know one big lesson they will learn, "My parents don't care."
