Wasn't your area of Indiana a hotbed of Klan activity at one time? Maybe still?
I grew up in a small town in Illinois, before "diversity" became a loaded, politically correct, and, ultimately, meaningless term. We were whitebread as it gets. There was one family of Mexican immigrants (actually those kids were pretty popular).
