I'm sending this to my daughter and daughter-in-law to read to their children. This list should be printed on the wall of every school in America.

I'm so glad to see that these students are doing something about the fact that those early teachers didn't really do their job, and I'm glad you're getting to help them.
Everyone should have had you and my mom for teachers. If she assigned it, it better be done. She expected order in her class, and it was so. She was sure they could do better and always expected their best work and they gave it to her. Nothing builds self esteem more than a job well done....even if they don't want to do it.
Self-esteem is created by accomplishment (at whatever level the child is capable of). Not "I Am Special" days, or pencils saying "Caught Being Good".

Saddam, Uday, and Qusay all had High Self Esteem (TM). So does Dear Leader Kim Jong-Il.
The current school system produces Beavises & Buttheads with egos like Baba Saddam. Islamic Madrassas produce Jihadis. Which would you bet on in a fight?

Ah, the realities of LIFE. But, to tell the younger ones of the pitfalls and traps of life only falls on deaf ears. And Mistress Experience is such a cruel taskmaster.....
I'll print it out for some of my students who still complain, "miss, isn't school supposed to be fun?" And of course these are the ones who get the lowest grades.
