Tell me what you really think.

"I am probably the only Hoosier in the history of the state who not only doesn't like to eat morel mushrooms, but also can't find them even if they're right there by the toe of my shoe."
Well no, you're not the only one. I love them, but I'm like you, I can't see them when they're under my feet. Never could.
Next you'll be telling us you don't like persimmons . . .

I dunno. I love mushrooms, but those look suspiciously like sponges on sticks.

I'm half Hoosier and just last weekend the entire family was planning out a mushroom-hunting trip. It was at that point I found out the rest of the world doesn't do that (my lovely Wisconsin-born husband shared).
It's strange isn't it -- I called him into the room to show him the PICTURES of the morels. I can barely fathom the notion of having my very own patch of them somewhere close.
Ahhh...I need to get out more.

Can you believe I have never heard of a morel mushroom? Is this a mushroom with more scruples than other mushrooms?
Don't feel too bad about not enjoying your regional fare. I'm from New England and I don't like fish (even lobster), chowder or even beans. Just makes me a cheap date

Okay clearly I am missing out. This family LOVES mushrooms...any kind. I'm sure we would love them. Hey, can you send some back with SugarMommy next time she visits?

A friend prepared some acquired morels for me once and stated that she bet we would see images of Otis Redding after eating a batch of them. (We didn't) She prepared them in olive oil and garlic. I think anything prepared in olive oil and garlic is pretty yummy.

Morels aren't limited to Indiana. They grow all over the US and Europe, where they're a delicacy (they can't be cultivated, so it's wild or nothing). They are called "sponge mushrooms" by some. Morels contain a chemical that can make you sick (but not kill you), though it is neutralized by heat--so don't eat them raw.
