I hate waiting for people who don't show. Last semester I came in an hour early to meet a parent who couldn't come any other time. He didn't show, his kid didn't pass, and I didn't bother to call him again.

I know teachers try to help all of the students, but students have to do their part. It isn't fair to the students who get their work in on time, attend class and study if those who don't continually get chance after chance. That used to drive me crazy in school.
So, stand firm... in the real working world you do have to do your work and show up on time or it is out the door.

Tough, but fair? Would that describe you? Softy? You are sort of, kinda, soft. Not totally, just maybe....

I like your style, Mamacita! I just wish we middle school teachers could follow your example.

Just an FYI, according to reports universities now penalize more for Ws on a transcript than Fs. So if students transfer, it's more of a problem for them to have Ws.
I can't remember where you teach, if I knew, so that may not be relevant.
But at the community college where I teach it is.
I am amazed, and thrilled, that your student taking chemo is able to continue with her class.

My advice? Go to the registrar and withdraw. Try again next semester. Maybe by then you'll have grown up a little more.
What if they sic Mommy & Daddy & their lawyers on you instead?

I still can't understand students not taking their school work serously. I started college overseas, and trust me there is no such thing as an extension. At the school I just completed my studies, I saw the same trend, in the entire 2-years, I was late with an assignment once because of a power outage, I completed finals with two root canal infections, so I guess its all about priorities.

I give you a lot of credit for making your class "the real world!" I don't know why people think that school should be second chance after second chance! If you "forget" to file your taxes, pay your rent, or pay your credit card - forget it! But people expect to receive leinency (spelling?) in school.... to an extent, we make exceptions for chemo or diabetics or learning diabilities. But your real world job doesn't!!! If you work at McDonalds and you're late so many times...you're toast!!!

I'm not an educator, but I see the same problems in training people in the real world.
It's sad when people don't take their responsibilities, seriously.
They get in the way of those that do!
