Tell me what you really think.

Gravatar Mama Levinson's math I understand! Bravo for her getting her priorities straight!

Gravatar AMEN! My mom told me that when her dad was the teacher in the one-room school, he always answered questions with a question. It made her mad when she was young, but she saw the wisdom of it when she was older - then she did it to me.....LOL

Gravatar Wisdom. It's not just about the facts. Great post.

Gravatar mamacita! i've been gone for awhile and just read your whole page of most excellent posts. brava, as always. this post in particular was interesting, because it matches up with something i observed.

i live in new york, in queens, and so anytime i take public transportation, the ride lasts around an hour. i never leave the house without a book (and a music source, but that's not my point). however, while on a train or bus, i rarely, if ever, see anyone else open up and read. (and i think these nonreaders must be insane and/or extremely boring, but that's just me.)

i was in london last week, and was pleased as punch to be on a subway and see the clear majority of people READING! they had their own books or at least a newspaper. and this isn't rush hour necessarily, either. people just reading while traveling. lots of them.

another interesting thing about london: FREE state museums, a lot of them, and all world class--british museum, national gallery, science museum, natural history museum, and more. FREE! you can visit for five minutes on a whim, look at one painting or one sculpture, and come back as many times as you want. because it's FREE and it will always be there. for FREE!

and i began thinking that there's a link in there somewhere. opening up the rich cultural literacy of the world to EVERYONE also helps encourage book literacy.

see? pretty interesting, no? also, sorry for the novella-sized comment. i've been meaning to post this myself, but am lazy and jet-lagged.

Gravatar He was my mother's teacher in high school in Brooklyn. She loved him.

Gravatar wonderful post, as always. i remember reading that book when i probably about 10. (my dad had been reading it and i wanted to know why he was always laughing while he read.)i think my perspective may have changed.

Gravatar Life sustaining should always overrule life enriching...

Some folks just don't believe in rainy days.
