Tell me what you really think.

It's not even 6 am here and I'm trying not to wake my kids with my cackling at your descriptions--although I'm pretty sure they must have heard my reaction to the short-shorts demonstration. Hysterical, in a tragic kind of way.

Very funny, but I've no doubt whatsoever it's all true.

This is very funny, in an icky cringing way. My father's a retired principal. I always felt bad for the faculty at his school, knowing they had to listen to his "Let me tell you a story..." lectures at their meetings... just like we had to listen to them at home. Gahhhhh!

in THIS town, he didn't last long. He was pretty much set up, framed, and run out of town, because that's, by golly, what we DO to non-political types who try to be impartial and treat everybody's kid the same, around these parts.
Here they had one like that, and she was run out of town in the second year of a 5-yr contract, sued, and got $350,000 pay for the duration of the contract.

I don't know how I have been missing your blog all this time. My experience with administrators is similar to yours. And my opinion of them is exactly the same. What you wrote would be extremely funny if it weren't true. And if it was on tv, no one would believe it.

Wow, those descriptions of school principals almost sounded too funny to be real. But, when I was a teacher, I had my fair share of strange principals. Now, I am one after 36 years of teaching. How do I know whether or not I am a good principal? I think I may be pretty good. And this is my first year. For one thing, I know a lot of the students. I had quite a few in kindergarten and I have had some of the parents when I taught 3rd grade in the 80s. 2. Teachers want to transfer to my school. 3. I am playful with the students when necessaary, but am strict on discipline and especially our uniform policy. 4. I have an open door policy for everyone. I try to talk to the students on a daily basis when I am at school and before they go home to remind them of what is important. Teachers know they can come to me with their problems...school or personal and I offer a shoulder to cry on or whatever they need that I can provide. I collaborate with them weekly as much as we can and truly listen and implement the great ideas that I can afford within my budget> recently I purchased Smart Boards and projectors for all my staff. It took 2 years before I came to even consider them. I hope I am a good principal.
