Flash drives rock! Especially when you travel and use multiple computers. Not sure how many we have around here, but I know it's more than one. Yes, everyone needs one.

Mr brother-in-law gave me three of them recently, but I am not sure how they work. Can you help? Or am I hopelessly stuck in doofus land?

I used to work for a company that made secure flashcards with thumbprint verification, so I have quite a few of them at home. Both of my kids are required to have them for school, and when they showed up with 2 gig flashdrives with thumbprint verification, well let's just say the teachers were impressed.
I love them, too.

OH yes, those things are very nice! I do email myself stuff still, but I especially like them to transfer from one computer to the next.
I guess I need a bigger one to get mp3s on them - mine are a couple of years old.
Since alot of us at school got the same one, I had to find something to make mine distinctively different. So I put a sticker on mine and used a sharpie to put my initials on them. Not permanent, but keeps it distinct.

I totally agree. We are starting to put all our digital pictures on one. I also back up my Quickbooks from work on one. It's so easy which is key for me.

I need to get with it. I was reading California Teacher Guy's post in which he had all his info about a staffing on his, and he left it a couple of states away. That's when his brother suggested e-mailing himself.

Of course as obsessive and compulsive as I am at times, I would have to have two... one for the files and another to back up the backup.

I'm with you. I love my flash drive. This is the real flashy jewelry I prefer.

I love my flash drives. I remember how excited I was when I got my 256MB flash drive a couple of years ago: no more having to burn CD-RWs! Now, I have a 1GB and 2GB flash drive, and I haven't bothered with the 256MB one in months.

And who needs jewels when you can wear a hard drive around your neck?
I've been wearing mine (containing the backups for my home systems) around my neck for a couple years.
I refer to them as "Geek Bling".

srp, you're not OCD, you're SMART! I had all my notes typed from this term, as well as a paper started due in March and my flash drive just decided it was NOT going to work anymore. It's NEVER been in a Mac and it gives me an error message (in lieu of opening) that reads "this has been formatted for a Mac". Very frustrating - if I EVER decide to trust one of those things again, I'll have two as well.
