Tell me what you really think.

Gravatar "Quotidian" is one of my favorite words. Now it can be one of yours too!

Gravatar I like "quotidian" also. It's almost just like the French word.

I don't know "moiety" either. The others I at least recognize. Some of them I'd have to read in context.

Gravatar I feel stupid now...

Gravatar THIS was a great post! I, too, collect language; how about this one:

Once you learn to read, you will be forever free. -Fredrick Douglass

I had to look up the two you bolded, too....

Gravatar Great list. To be honest I would have to look up approximately 10. I love the word jejune-----it was used in a Frasier episode and it was the first time I had heard it at the time. Laissez-faire is one of my most favorite social studies words and I teach the word and meaning to my fourth and fifth graders. The word loquacious is also a fun word to use.

Gravatar I didn't know moiety either, but I read a blog that has quotidian in the title/subtitle. I have seen all of those words before, but I would have to look up about 4 of them to be sure of their meaning. I majored in English too.....LOL

Gravatar Quotidian is also one of my favorite words.

I definitely would have to look up more than 2 words.
Great post btw.

Gravatar Quotidian just has such a fun ring to it when you say it, sort of like "prestidigitation", don't you think?

Gravatar Quotidian looks like the French quotidien so I knew it. The other one--huh? I love words also, and adore reading. My older daughter is like me, but my younger one is not. She loves activities, and sports like her dad. Thus, her vocabulary stinks. I am sad about that, but we all have different talents and interests.

Gravatar I had to look up those to as well. I also didn't know Orthography. I like it. Actually I love all of those words.

Gravatar Two, I mean't two. tee hee.

Gravatar Heh. Moiety was the only one I didn't know, but I guess I sort of cheated, having been, you know, a proofreader for 20 years.

That's a great list.

Gravatar Love the list!!!!

Gravatar I'd have to look up several of them.. but I had to boast and say I knew quotidian. :D

Gravatar Unfortunately I think my son who is entering 8th grade next year knows more of these words than I do. I think parents are too busy to sit down and read these days, and so their kids follow the non-reading example. Which is why so many of them know so few of these words, I am sure. This is a good list.

Gravatar I had to look up 5. When I was in high school, our English teach made us memorize all the Latin and Greek roots/prefixes/suffixes. As much as we hated her for it, today I can figure out the meaning of most any word because of those long ago exercises.

Cool post!

Gravatar TeachER. I never said I could TYPE.

Gravatar I'm familiar with 'moiety' from reading Heinlein's "Citizen of the Galaxy" but it brings to mind the street character from "In Living Color" clapping the backs of his hands and calling for "mo' iety".
