Tell me what you really think.

HELLS YEAH!!
1. I've never understood how people can even THINK they have an opinion on something if they haven't watched/seen/read it. Sure, I have no problem if they say "I just have no interest in reading that" or "I have no desire to watch that movie".
But don't tell me how good/bad/evil/wrong/inflammatory it is if you haven't even looked past the front cover.
2. I'M SO JAZZED ABOUT HARRY POTTER!
Both the movie and the coming (and last! boohoo!) book.
If I lived by you I would treat you to Harry Potter AND even popcorn.

I am also waiting impatiently for the last Potter book!
I heard so many people talk about the Da Vinci Code as you described. When I said close to the same thing you did ("if your belief system is so shaky....") they would answer that it was not they who objected to it, but other, less intelligent people who might be swayed by the ideas in the book. Balderdash!

The objections were about that one word, not the whole book. Do you absolutely have to read the whole book to comment on the use of one word?
I haven't read the book, so am I also not allowed to have the opinion that getting in a tizzy about the word "scrotum" is ridiculous? Or am I only prohibited from having an opinion without reading the book if my opinion differs from yours?
Here's an analogy. I have never listened to Don Imus's show. I have, however, heard the "nappy-headed hos" clip approx. 50 times. Each time the clip runs, it's taken out of the context of what I understand was a four-hour show.
Am I a moron for having an opinion about the remark without listening to the whole show? Do I have to sit through the whole frickin' four hours to have an opinion without being called a moron?

No contact information? Since you've left no way for anybody to email you or check out your blog and comment there as you have here, I'll have to say it publicly instead of whispering in your ear in private: the post is about BOOKS. B O O K S.

I personally prefer the word scrotum to its alternatives. Amen to what you have written. I couldn't agree more. I have read the DaVinci Code, and thus can say that I strongly disliked it. (not for theological reasons, but because it wasn't all that well-written)

Don't know what an analogy is, huh?
Your post wasn't only about books - it was about commenting on the part without having experienced the whole. So was mine. Get it?

Wow, somebody peed on Sam's shoetops! Analogies are one thing, but deliberately misinterpreting this post is another.
I would say Mamacita 'gets it.' I'm not sure Sam does.
I'm not completely anonymous, either. Mamacita knows who I am. Who are you, Sam?

I admit, years ago when my daughter went to a very conservative private school, I was wary about the Harry Potter books ::hanging head::
Now, I take my daughter to the midnight book release
I have told my daughter (who just turned 12) that I will never tell her to not read a book, just that she should think about waiting to read it. I used to sneak books all the time in school, and I'd much rather she and I talk about the issues that might come up in a book.
And to stay totally on topic, I have no problem with her reading the word "scrotum". It's a proper body term.

Why do I see the comments turning into a bad remake of Spartacus?
"I am Scrotum!"
I can't stress how much this would make me laugh - because, apparently, I'm 12.

As a librarian, (and part of our selection committee), I am pleased to report that the book made it to the shelves before the tempest in a teapot! I must admit tho, it's like an 8 year olds joy at finding fart books. (And there are plenty of those!)
It is really easy to censor by not putting a book out, much harder once it's already hit the shelves. So you just make sure you get it out there before the board realizes it. Heh heh heh.....

Must you get all peckish and testy about this issue? I'm sorry, but you come off as a bit of a cocky nutsack, Jane.

It's Jane's blog, Babette, I suggest that she can be any way she wants about any issue she chooses in this, her very own, place.
Why would anyone automatically take someone else's word about thing like books and use THAT to form their own opinion? That is moronic.
No one says you can't like/dislike the book. All Mamacita is saying is that before you form an opinion, check it out thoroughly for yourself. I happen to think that's wise advice no matter what the subject.

I'm just punning with Jane, Monty. I love her to death and would fight even you down for the chance to be president of her fan club. She knows I can't resist the lowest form of humor, especially when it comes to private parts.
Friends?

Personally, I know how hard Mamacita works to keep those balls in the air, so let's make sure no one gets shafted in the process of discussing this. That would indeed be a dick move.

OH Babette, I'm sorry. See, I should NEVER EVER leave comments past midnight, because I lose all ability to read and understand things.
My fault! I think I'm just itchin' to scrap, or something.
I'm such a scrote.
Friends, yes indeed!!

Testicles, the lesser-known younger brother of Pericles and Sophocles, remarked to his friend Lavinia, "Good thing I don't have to testify in court. My testimony would be really sticky thanks to my dripping popsicles. I'm glad you're coming over tonight to help me manipulate my Nads; I tried to do it myself last night and today they're really burning."
"Go Nads!" shouted Lavinia.
