It's so late and my eyes are so tired, when the page first opened, I thought the title was "IT'S STUPID EMAIL TIME AGAIN". Well, I was kind of right.
Wow... I didn't realize you were teaching ESL.
If only the student had written something like...
"Teacher,
I read the syllabus and understand that I cannot receive any make-up grades in this class. However, even with my absences, I still desire to succeed in this class and know that the only way to do that is by working the assignments. So,if you would, by chance, e-mail me the assignments that I missed (namely those of the first week of class and on the 23rd) I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you again for your time."

Students should know when the withdrawal deadline is and use it appropriately (and sparingly). I'm just gobsmacked by this young person's audacity...boy, is she in for a steep learning curve when she gets into the corporate world!
Plus, her email was badly spelled, completely devoid of good grammar, and demanding.
Betcha she scored at the top of her class in Self Esteem (TM) throughout her elementary and high school career...
Damn. I missed the letter. I am so unbelievably careful whenever I email a professor it isn't funny. I get tired of these young pups who slack off and expect to be spoon-fed, whining about all their problems. Suck it up, princesses, this is university, not daycare.
You're right on this one. At this stage they should realize they aren't going to be able to get away with making demands when they are the ones that missed the work and then expect to pass the class.

With one week to go in my term it's coming up on my turn to start getting these from students, and from parents, guidance, and all manner of support staff. wheee.
