[pray]
We had someone stroke out at work last week and he was only 36.....luckily he is recovering ok at the moment.....
Sometimes life just bites you in the ass......
and sometimes life has people like Abdullah to make you remember you are alive......
"we are all born to the same god, and only through our own lives find our different names or leaders. none of these is important. as the one god loves us all if we love him".
My prayers for your friends...hugs to the lovelets.....

My head is spinning just reading this. Some of my cab rides in your city were powered entirely by gravity and sheer luck. One of my guys REALLY almost ran a kid over. Of course, cab rides in my city all require a certain amount of luck and entail much gravity, god-willink.
Sorry about your friend.
And I'm glad that Allah was your driver's copilot.

I've had similar experiences - the paralysis, the hoping that if you freeze then everything will be alright. One hate having to trust people one doesn't trust.
Nice that he meant well with the Allah stuff, but why do zealots of any religion assume you're interested in hearing their pronouncements? Why not keep their hobbies to themselves? Do I tell all and sundry about home brewing and everything balancing up?
I had an islamic student once, who spent most of his college time browsing fundamentalist web sites. I got on well enough with him, so he did me the honour of showing me the web sites that explain about the umpteen levels of hell. Smiling, he said "the worst level, that's the one that's reserved for you guys." There was no malice in it, he thought he was helping me. It didn't help.
Glad you survived to look after the lets and this underpants.
PS hope your friend soon feels able to appreciate the nurses.

Mama, jesus mary and joseph as my gram used to say when such things happened to her. I was once trapped in a taxi in NYC by a young arab who didn't know 5th from 6th on our way to MOMA. Inshallal we actually did get there, but not before I demanded that he stop in the middle of the intersection while I asked a cabbie next to us to tell Ahab which way to go. He did tell him and then some and rolled his eyes as if I should know better than to get in a cab with a non-English speaking driver.

great story--reminds me of the taxi driver who wasn't particularly religious and got to heaven to find he had the best place up there. This upset many of the religious--the pope, Billy Graham, etc--and they went to St. Peter to ask them why. Peter said, "That's easy, he brought more folks into the faith than you. When you preached, everyone slept, when he drove, everyone prayed."
Sorry to hear about your friend's husband. 37 is young for a heart attack. He'll be in my prayers.

Worrisome about your friend. Make him take it easy.
I also know the Turkish taxis, and have had my own share of exciting rides, often withg people who only have a slight idea about the route.
Once, with a friend, we set up a sat nav in the back of the cab to assist our journey, with me holdiing the blibby bit out of the window.
Actually, it didnt work to well, bec ause the cab finally broke down on the bridge by Otakoy and we literally had an armed soldier stop another cab for us.
Joy,

ohhh...that would be my nightmare!!! i'm a nervous passenger even with a good driver. my good friend who's a young mother of 2 just got diagnosed with cancer and i relate to those feelings. it makes you think about your own mortality. i try not to worry about what happens and think that when it's time, it's time, and there's nothing i can do about it.- like ecclesiastes. just live each day with purpose and meaning.
