Gov. Richardson looked uncomfortable because it is difficult to wait for a translation in English when you already understand the question or answer in Spanish. In fact it can become a major distraction to those who understand both languages and when you here Spanish your reaction is to respond in Spanish.

You should know this, no.

Gravatar Maneegee: Univision is notorious for their voice-overs when translating English to Spanish. Yes, it is horrible!

Am...fliberty: I think the media was showing he was clumsiness b/c he is getting that reputation. He has clumsily and nervously answered questions in the past thus so...but, you may be correct here - not sure.

Gravatar a4l - that was my sense, too. It was confusing watching the feed on tv, I can only imagine what it was like having an earpiece jabbed in my head with a translator.

LP - the media loves to create its own realities, their track record is abominable.

Gravatar Lo que dijo Americanforliberty alli arriba.

Yeah, I sorta thought they shoulda let Richardson and Dodd just do everything en español since they already speak it so well. Apparently even Obama and Edwards have some skills too though not fluent. (Sounds like Hillary doesn't know more than por favor from what I hear but who knows what lessons she's been gettin'.)

But you're right, it's confusing when you already understand the question *and* can answer the question en español, but you have to wait for the annoying translations. Why shouldn't Richardson and Dodd benefit from their skills?

Probably in about 10 years it'll be unusual for a candidate *not* to speak español to some reasonable ability, even among the GOP. Just that we're still in transition-land now I guess.

Speaking of the GOP, yeah this whole gig is surprising me a bit. I knew McCain was in on it, but still thinking Giuliani at least is up on it, too. Giuliani even more than McCain, heck even more than some Democrats is at least saying stuff on our side. The guy scares me on the one hand but on the other, Giuliani seems like one of the only guys with the cojones to confront the bigots in his own base, and still retain some respect. Just thinking he's still in. Even if it's just McCain and Giuliani on Univision, we'll know who the future of the Republican Party is.
