First, thank you for this article. My admiration for you is rapidly surpassing what I had thought was a fairly respectable arsenal of adjectives.
Second, I regret to say that from my own anecdotal travels around the internet, the sentiments expressed in the posts from the Arizona blog you quoted appear to be echoed nationally. The "they broke the law" crap I have seen on many websites that purport to be "progressive," including one that aspires to association with the Democratic party.
These liberal white folks have nothing against Mexicans, as long as they stay in Mexico. While the more racist attitudes may be phrased in politer, more "educated," and oblique language, and with the exception of some objections to some of the more absurd provisions of the Sensenbrenner bill, I do not see a wide gap between sentiments expressed by those who consider themselves "liberals," "conservatives," "Republicans," or "Democrats" on this issue.
Victory will be won on the backs of the sons and daughters of the indigenous people, I do not believe there will be significant support from any Estadosunidense political faction other than immigrants who have at some point, purchased their papers from Washington and/or been here so long that they now have adult descendants who were born in the US. They can, I believe, be counted on, as can many if not most of their children. Only when that victory is close enough to touch will you see the "liberals" join the marches in great numbers, and announce themselves as proud authors of the struggle.
I also believe that every person of good will who saw the little girl, or hears of her as I did, from you, will feel something in their hearts take life, and a new force run through their veins: she WILL be a doctor.
The term "amnesty" is offensive to me. It should be called "apology and acceptance."

Xenophobic? You are too kind.
They're RACISTS, pure and simple, and should be liberally tagged as such and called out in public. They should not be tolerated by people of sound mind.
They're not one bit better than ignorant, redneck southerners who refer to dark skinned people by racial epithets.

First of all mexicans are not crimanals !!! Most people come to make a honest living . But they are attacked about just comeing to sell drugs .I am tired of seeing people being treated like animals !!! They risk their lives everyday trying to cross the border to try to get a better life in the united states ,And what is it that the goverment douse ... they deport them back to their homeland. all the hard work to cross over for nothing. I just there to be some justice done !!Mexicas And Canadians are americans alike the citizens that were born in the united states , Because we all live in North America ! The thing that angers me is that half of the american soil was mexican soil ! It would be like the settlers moving away the indians to another land. The Mexican people will not take this injustice any more ! so if the goverment thinks that the Mexican peole are gonna take this .. ,they are dead wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you found that calling people names -- you know, "racist," "bigot," and so forth -- is persuasive?

Tienes razon.
You left out Dallas, where 350,000-500,000 people marched peacefully from the Catedral Santuario de Guadalupe (my dicese's HQ) to City Hall. On Palm Sunday.
And some of us white liberals have Latino (and Italian, and Native American, and Chinese, and other)-american relatives, part of our own families. Why would we turn our backs on our own families?
The GOP and the crazy right-wing bunch (Minutemen, etc.) are on the wrong side of this issue, and the vast majority of US citizens (and their families - from all over) are on the right side of this issue.

Thanks for your comment, Tom, y gracias por su solidaridad. The rallies have been an amazing gathering of humanity and I am honored to be counted as one of those who stand up for human rights and family prosperity. Paz
