Thanks you guys! I'm trying to update, but blogger is having issues... also, am seeing who else has what up.
One of these days, we'll have to get our Eegian Neighborhood (or Barrio) webring together, so that I don't forget anyone.

Duke, I just went through the comments in your thread. It's unfortunate that personal attacks are not only acceptable there, but encouraged with the ratings. You've done good by speaking out on the issue as you see it, don't worry too much about what others think. I am hoping that our collective words have forced some people to examine their consciences on this issue and see the humanity of the sea of people rallying.

that Duke is an asshole comment was really nasty. But other than that most of the other comments were pretty good I'd say - except for people who simply don't get satire.

I thinks it's that ... "you must be some sort of rich out of touch libural who doesn't know the plight of the workin man" thing that really gets to me ...
I am a workin man. I've been one all my life. I just happen to work in an industry that has allowed me the privilege of working with immigrants, legal and illegal, black and white, from all over the world, all my life.
From my first job washing dishes as a kid over thirty years ago until this very day, I've greeted many of my fellow employees every day with "hola, buenos dias, como esta" ...
Perhaps if some of these irate "workin men" who feel so threatened by immigrants spent some time getting to know them, they might learn something.. they might see that they have far much more in common with their fellow exploited workers than they do with a bunch of politicians who want to use immigrants as a scapegoat for failing education and healthcare systems, and economic policies that have slowly eroded the middle class. They might see that their best allies in the fight against their downward economic spiral are the very people they think are causing it.
But obviously that's not the case, because in the end I guess it's much easier to blame the immigrants... and assume that anyone who doesn't must be a limousine liberal living in la la land.

The Eegee Board has been refreshed, I kept the comments that have been made over this past weekend in case people haven't read them yet. I think that's better than completely wiping everything out on Sunday nights, what do you all think?
Duke, I am very sorry that anyone has called you such a bad thing, especially in response to your kindness in posting my piece.
However thanks to a visit from a descendant, I was able to look at the site, and one of them implied that I am a Democrat!
I was inclined to log in and defend your honor and set that particular pompous poseur as straight as the stick that impales him, but the descendant was hustled off by an ancestor (also a descendant) because it is a "school night."
One does what one can with one's descendants, but they grow up, and forget the values they were taught, like staying up late on school nights when elders are giggling and there is honor to be defended, and new orifices to be bestowed.

And Nanette -- Thanks for updating Human Beams I took a quick look, but I'll have to go back after work tonight to really get into it. It's time to get dressed for work now.
