Back to Man Eegee - Latino Político

Where have you been? Anchor babies has been a rallying cry for several months now. I believe there was an attempt to end birth-right citizenship in HR 4437.

While HR 4437 was being debated the local paper had a story that quoted from a Border Patrol agent who saw a pregnant woman jump the Nogales wall, squat, birth a child, then flagged down the agent to be taken to the hospital. The good reporter of course didn't ask for proof of this incredible story. I assume a report would have been made. Some type of explanation for afterbirth in the hummer?

I love Southern Arizona reporters.

Gravatar I have no clue, I did a google search and found a plethora of hits.

(yes, that was a shameless quote from the Three Amigos)

Maybe it was la llorona?

Gravatar sounds like these march organizers could use some support:

Watsonville Police charge Brown Berets for peaceful action!

. . . after the march, the Watsonville Police Department targeted one organizer (a Brown Beret) and wrote him a citation with 8-10 counts against him, including criminal charges. We are still waiting for the ticket to arrive in the mail, what we know we have learned from one policeman and the news. They will also be charging the Brown Berets for police overtime. This was an effort to show people that “…they can’t do whatever they want to,” in the words of the Watsonville Police.

Gravatar Arcturus I was happy to see your comment at BT today. Seemed to do some good vis a vis editorial decisions.

You da man (or woman -- whatever).

Gravatar The media coverage doesn't bother me. It's pretty much to be expected. I am looking forward to the numbers multiplying too much to ponder my lack of amazement at Dobbs & Co.

I did get a good laugh today at someone on one of the blogs calling the white racists "nativists." :D

Gravatar Manny, change is in the air...this is beginning to feel like the birthing of the 60's my friend.

Don't know if you read Wolcott, but here's his take today on the RW BS:

Gravatar Thank you for posting your views on my blog. Your point about organized labor and immigration is valid. I was referring more to the sentiments of the rank and file than official positions of unions but I didn't make the distinction clear. Liked your post about Anchor Babies and I'm impressed with this blog in general. New discoveries in the blogosphere are always fun. I will add this to my blogroll and plan to visit your other blogs soon.

Gravatar Arcturus, thanks for the heads up on the Brown Berets, I put an email in with the organizer to see what we can do to help.

dada, thanks for reminding me never to piss off Wolcott to risk becoming a target of his word-sword. Yikes!

Rob - thanks for stopping by, you've been added to the blogroll!

Ductape - more guffawing? :D

maryb - Hi

Gravatar Correct me if I am mistaken, but I believe it was Bob Barr who originally proposed legislation to deny citizenship to people born in the US whose parents had not purchased their papers from the Washington store. This was years ago, and no one was interested. But 911 changed everything, I guess.

LOL yes Manito, I am still guffawing over the nativist one. And what is funnier, or some may see it as sad, I guess, is that this poster is on our side, just apparently unaware that Latin Americans are essentially Native Americans, one of the most interesting accomplishments of the invaders' genocidal and culturicidal activities has been to create one large tribe from the Arctic Circle to Tierra del Fuego: millions who may not know their tribe, or their real names, or the name of Mendel, but they know that the descendants of those invaders are on Indian land.

Gravatar After blogging on the immigration I have reached the below conclusion posted on another blog:

I think many people on this blog don't realize there is a flexing of Latino Political might on this issue. Whether you may or may not agree with, but 500,000 people in LA, 300,000 in Chicago should be a wake up call.

If you desire to tap this power in the future, be mindful of what you say today.

I don't think this is a threat but the truth.

Gravatar I agree, a4l, the latino community is remembering the strength they have in their numbers. Traditionally, the voting percentages are horrible compared to other groups, hopefully this will be a change for the better.

Gravatar My favorite sign from one of the reports on Spanish language TV the other day: "Are my taxes illegal too?"

Most of the demonstrators, being victims of taxation without representation, are not permitted to vote, others, being poor, have a more sophisticated view of the effects of voting on either who takes office or actual events.

Presence in the streets is its own kind of vote, however, and has historically been shown to be a more effective event-changing dentifrice than the leading brand.
