That is so...so...so cool. I can't think of any other word to describe it. It's almost enough to restore one's faith in human nature.
And I am so supremely jealous that you actually got to see Saturn, rings and all. I'm more than tempted to buy a telescope. I'll justify the purchase by telling everyone it's for The Young One, then I'll tell him it's a new type of video game.
It doesn't take LA to make someone jaded. I find that I don't expect people to do really nice things, but that when they do, I am very pleasantly surprised. I'm not totally pessimistic; I really do believe that people are all basically good, but that their inherent goodness is often buried under a lifetime of crap.
So, when someone climbs out from under all of that crap and shows us who they are capable of being, I stand in awe of it. Hmmmm...lowered expectations as the key to happiness. What do you think of that?
Lori, you hit the nail on the head in my opinion: lowered expectations as the key to happiness. Expecting nothing produces many occasions of awe-someness.
I would have done exactly the same thing! The two places I've spent most of my life are New York and Los Angeles - get the picture? Love that they were so genuine - warms my heart...
